Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Rock Solo Nr.3 (D Major) by Trond Vold

I'm first ever recording of me playing on the guitar. I love Trond's lessons. Been playing for about 1.5 years now. Made some errors. Hope you guys like it.

Hi my friend. It's great to see you posting in REC. This is quite a difficult solo to attempt, especially as you've only been playing for 1.5 years. There are some areas where I can recommend that you focus on to improve your lead playing ability.

- Your picking hand. You seem to hold your hand in mid air so that it's floating above the strings.. this makes it difficult for your hand to be accurate. Try resting the side of your hand (the side of your little finger) against the strings, near the bridge, as if you were doing a karate chop. The side of your hand keeps unwanted strings quiet by resting against them. Also, having contact against the guitar body will help you stay accurate. You don't have to keep your fingers sticking out, you can curl them in like a fist of you want.. it doesn't matter. What is important is that you have a natural hand position that rests near the bridge of the guitar (near the tremelo system).

Have a look at the 3rd photo here https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=40433 It doesn't have to be exactly like me but it shows how my hand is angled so the side of my hand is in contact with the bridge and not floating.

- Hand synchronisation. Your right and left hands are not quite synchronised yet. This lesson requires some alternate picking and it will be near impossible to replicate if you're hands cannot work together at the same speed. I would pick some lessons that focus on simple picking licks. I have a lesson designed to work on the right hand only for alternate picking beginners. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Picking-Hand-Basics/

Maybe some of the other instructors have some good suggestions for other picking exercises ? smile.gif

-String bending. This is a very important part of guitar playing so some work here is essential.

Please ask in the forum or send any of us a message about these things because we're all here to help ! cool.gif

Hi man! Congrats on your first recording! As Ben said, this lesson is a bit over your level. The things that you have to work more are Alternate Picking (and Hands Synchronization) and Bending. Ben has made awesome workouts for both techniques. Your timing is good. Keep on working and let us know if you need some help choosing lessons or exercises. wink.gif

Really good effort on this one. Decent tone and good technique in general. I think you need to work on this more however.. Not all the notes came precise, I must notch a point there, timing wasn't great, another one, and bends and vibratos need more work, so another one. It's time to break it down and work on it more a bit more seriously - with a metronome.

hey there smile.gif posting in the REC is a great way of evaluating yourself with a critical but constructive perspective! I think you should follow Ben's extended advice and break things down! It's a difficult piece and it needs time, focus and some practice before you can assimilate it! Best of luck and ask away anything you wish to know! We're here to help!
