I have a line 6 hd500, and am using it with the 4 cable method on my blackheart hothead. My problem is the effects loop has level controls for the fx in/out on the back, and have no idea how to make sure i get unity gain as I've never messed with this type of thing before.

I have been wondering for a few years about this. I am a musician with a bad case of performance anxiety. At home I can play along with a considerably difficult piece of music, but in certain situations my self doubt takes over. These things are normal according to therapists I have seen in the past, but it can be debilitating when your hand locks up during a great solo destroying performances, and for me is very hard to overcome. My question is, how do you mentally cope with this and make it less of a problem? Are there techniques you use when in doubt? Mantras you say to yourself? Ways to keep yourself from becoming to tense with anxiety to play with a relaxed feel? I have never found much on the subject of the psyche as it applies to performance arts and I think it is an interesting thing. Please contribute anything you think would be helpful as I'm sure a lot of people could benefit from an in depth discussion of this topic.

Hi, my name is Rusty Chops, obviously. I have been playing guitar for about 13 years but had an attitude about it most of my life that held me back. I have developed several bad habits and am desperately trying to correct them. One of my main problems is I always improvise and never remember, so I rarely finish songs. I have a pretty good understanding of theory and harmony and can pretty much name a chord or scale given notes, but barely know any full songs. I signed up here mainly seeking guidance, and have the time to dedicate as i am disabled. I come from a classic rock background but over the years have gotten a strong love for funk and jazz. I love a challenge so i decided to join a metal band stupidly and have no background, they like my style but i run out of ideas. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated, and if there is any way I can contribute with my knowledge of chord structure, scales, and other theory i would be more than happy to help out those interested and take the time to find your way of learning.
