Pretty much just good advice for musicians in general ... don't freak about someone who you perceive is 'better' than you (that's never ending) and be authentic.

This is GREAT advice imho. It's very easy to get sucked in to instagram and worry non stop about whether your vids are being watched. There are millions of guitar players on instagram. It's very very very hard to start out and get any real traction. It can be daunting. I've been putting up quality videos for years and have barely scratched the surface. It can really be a let down when you work hard on a vid, share it, and it gets 10 views when it's worth 1000. All you can do is try to enjoy the process. I'd suggest interacting with anyone who interacts with you, especially at first. It's a great way to grow a real fan base. It's easy to do at first since you won't have that many people. I've just now cracked 2200 followers which is very small compared to the millions that some famous guitar players have. All you can do is post cool stuff, and respond to everyone you can when they like or make a comment. Just like youtube, and just like guitar, it's a process and it takes years.
Here is my instagram. Please share yours everybody!

I'd never really heard of "Instagram style" guitar until this thread though I knew instantly (pun intended) what it was.
A few days ago one of my improv students (a violinist) asked me if I knew how to play 'instagram' guitar. The smart ass contrarian that I can be sometimes came up with this ...

hehe yeah, Polyphia and Chon and good examples of that Insta sound, but also some other guitarists like Mateus Asato's neo soul among many others helped to build it.

I think that every era had a "fashion" guitar style and it really influences younger players. Today is that Insta technical Neo soul style... I wonder what's next... biggrin.gif

Good question! It seems the neo insta soul is getting played out so something has to come along. Maybe it will be BERRIED ALIVE/Charles Caswell. Which is very much in the post processing, edited together, not done in one pass, or live, sped up, atonal, 8 bit djent thing. You know, sounds like ZELDA meets PERIPHERY smile.gif
