There is no E.P.A. (folks that make sure factories don't dump waste in our water supply too often) in China and the unrestrained growth has started to cause some issues. They lack the types of policy/regulation that many countries have. Sometimes those evil regulations have some benefit

Yeah, we have an EPA now. What about before 1970?
Remember 'Love Canal', '3-Mile Island', the BP oil spill, Exxon/Valdez, the Dust Bowl in the 1930s?
We hold the title of laying more waste to this planet than anybody - hands down.
And before anyone gets their shorts in a bunch - I'm certainly no apologist for China but lets put it in perspective and make sure the blinders are off.

Sadly all too true Todd.

Also, the so called 1st world has a tendency to pass a lot of its environmental issues on to the developing world.

I read about that somewhere a short while ago, China's government did have a meeting about it very recently but expected actions will take time. Better than nothing I guess...

I guess now that the money flow has decreased all over the world, China started facing consequences of rapid growth greediness. Russia, Europe and USA are to be blamed most for the past century but today China to me is worse now as they used the same (now cheaper) polluting tech. others used in the past.

Current government of Turkey (which I hate) by the way is a real tree murderer among other things. So many people got arrested and even killed during protests for the environment it sickens me even when just seeing trash on the street.

I only bring up China as they are experiencing massive growth without much if any regulation and it's starting to have very negative effects on ever aspect of life. Not to say the U.S. is far off. We have soiled much of the planet in fact. Prior to the E.P.A. we were as bad or worse than China even on our own soil. These days, much of the mess we make is at sea or in the Gulf. But we are still making a HUGE mess.

I honestly hope that as things like this start to hit home for more and more people that populations realize that you can't dump all of your mess and then hope for the best. China is losing breathable air in some major cities but they do have the ability to focus enormous resources on a given problem so the solution may end up coming from the East
