> IS THAT YOUR MAMA?

Nope didn't think so either. We all know parents don't get this.

I can show you how to be the virtuoso your folks could only dream about, but I first need your help:

* Pm me and I will show you where to start. I am online every day and I will help you out directly!

* Join my mentoring program. I will customize your learning experience in a way you haven't experienced before. We will have regular contact so that you can remain inspired every day and eventually reach a new level.

* Join my next video chat! GMC startpage holds a video chat schedule. We always cover a lot of ground and have fun. Remember that you don't need any previous knowledge, and you can be passive in the chat.

* Jam with me - you will find active collabs here.

* Post a topic on this board, guitar related or not - doesn't matter! You will find that chatting with instructors boosts your motivation to practice.

* You haven't missed my latest video lessons, have you?

* Oh and did you know that to become a killer guitarist you just need to focus on one thing? Everything
else is secondary. Pm me and I will explain.

Thank you Cosmin!

Well, my name is Ryley, Im 19 years old and am a resident of Canada, ehhh. I also love hockey and poutine.

I have been playing guitar for 8 years and jamming reguarly (at least once per week) for 6 years. I play primarily lead guitar and am fascinated by solo and melody construction.

I enjoy all kinds of music, but have a love for hard rock, heavy metal and progressive music. Some of my favourite bands include Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, King Crimson, Trivium, etc.

I have been playing in a regular performing band for the past several years, and our music can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCkF9gun4OM , though I believe you have already given your feedback on it! biggrin.gif

Although I need improvement in all areas of guitar (who doesn't?!) I feel as though my weakest point is song/melody/chord/solo construction. I know many of the basics, but would love to learn more involving the modes, the construction of the chords associated with them, changing scales in a solo, and note choice in a melody.

If you would like, I can post a solo to show you my current playing level, if needed.

Looking forward to hearing back from you! Thank you! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hey mate! I love your band! biggrin.gif Indeed, I have listened to Lucky Louise and left my feedback there.

Now, what I would suggest, is to tackle ear training, theory and applying the theory in actual contexts, in order to expand your vocabulary smile.gif

How does this sound?

Well, I would begin by asking you to tell me about your experience with theory and ear training - in lesser words, what have you done in this direction so far? smile.gif

Well, I know the 7 modes and their shapes, as well as how the major scale and relative minor are constructed. I have difficulties with applying the modes, and constructing the chords and that go along with them.

As for ear training, I have a book titled Fretboard Mastery by Troy Stetina and have done some of the interval training in it, but hardly enough to be worth mentioning! biggrin.gif

Alright! Got it wink.gif

Here's what I suggest - let's tackle each mode at a time and see what makes it tick with exercises and theory notes - we can use the ones I have posted in here last year for my 'Sessions on Modes' and we can create ear training exercises based on them too!

How does that sound? biggrin.gif

Hehe! Alright then! Please take a look over the notes for the Ionian mode and tell me your impressions after reading so we can discuss.

I understand how the scale is made up, and where it gets its flavor as opposed to just playing the major pentatonic. I also understand the idea of the relative minor to a major. Did you want me to try those excercises? or record improvisation? or just discuss?! laugh.gif

I wanted you to take a look and understand the principles plus, try the exercises smile.gif because the next task will be based on improvising lines over a given chord progression and emphasizing the special notes that give the mode its flavor - how does this sound?
