those seem to me to be as good as you can get for male vocalist, or thereabouts. so I will go with those. I think the second is a leadbelly song, if I am not mistaken.

Yeah it is. The 2nd track is a cover. The first is their own song.

Here is one of my favourites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3-eIv9vcdQ
The chorus is outstanding smile.gif

actually, i have one. female. it says from 1990, but i think it was 1987. She wrote this song for a friend of hers that had died. It really does a number on me, sort of rips something out of me. Late in the video you see a black guy with an expression on his face in the audience, like that, like it has ripped something out of you.

(god, back then they were so awesome, I would kill for a proper sounding recording of this version...)

Firefox can convert that video to MP3, I forget the name of the add-on though, not hard to find im sure though.

As for Bruce, He is my favorite singer of all time, He just progressively gets better and better, his voice on "A Matter Of Life And Death", and his solo album "A Tyranny Of Souls" is just phenomenal! smile.gif

I think this performance of http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ4RvQdDdas&feature=related by AFI is the best emotional vocal performance that I've ever seen.

Thanks for the tip with the plugin, but concerning his singing I unfortunately disagree, for me he had his peak exactly in those years, 81-83, and from that time on Maiden went down for me... rolleyes.gif

Posted by: Trond Vold May 8 2008, 07:25 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRFPs7L9Vgw .. It might not be the most emotional performance, but Mike Patton always give 900% every time.

Posted by: Gus May 8 2008, 07:45 PM

All great performances. But this is the one voice performance that almost makes me cry every time I hear. ohmy.gif
The scream in the end seems so desperate.

Original is from Don Henley(Eagles). But this is even better.

I slightly disagree. I think his peak was Powerslave on the song Aces High. He can no longer sing it these days and that is why until this tour they haven't done it at all. He is still a great frontman and awesome singer compared to most though.

Chris Cornell is awesome. All grunge singers are amazing in my opinion. There is one person better than Chris Cornell though and he is this fellow.

Argueably the most epic verse of a song ever. LaBrie's voice is a bit off on this video, but the album version is incredible.

If they don't play it live on May 28th I may have to take matters into my own hands.

This song I just love...... Heard it a thousand times tongue.gif I´ve heard her say in some interview it was a song about her misscarriges. I´m not sure, but I think she had 3 in a row.. And the lyrics in kind of a made up perspective, her own and her mothers. But´I don´t know that for sure. However it´s very emotional!! Specially in the end... Not a live performance though..

This was the first video that came to mind when I heard Emotional performance... Maby not the best, but very emotional...

for me, nobody comes close to Jonas Renkse when it comes to emotional awesomeness. I can't decide wether my favourite is the entire song Day from Brave Murder Day or if it's the chorus in Tonight's Music from Last Fair Deal Gone Down.

lots of great ones choose from but I think these would rank very high on my list of the best, rock vocals anyways...

Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi5op_zOqzg

For me you can't get much more emotional then Stevie Nicks smile.gif

The Tragically Hip - Nautical Disaster
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8Fi46BFAF0&feature=related

Ok you knew I'd post a Hip song smile.gif Gordon Downie does everything with emotion and is probably one of my favorite male vocalists.

Non rock vocals it doesn't get much better then this for me

Andrea Bocelli - Con Te Partiro
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qhh8MaRnzMc&feature=related

I had the honor to meet Mr. Bocelli last year and chatted with him for almost an hour. I told him how much I loved this song and he actually sang a bit of it for me. There are no words to describe and yes... I cried like a baby smile.gif

those are really great. that tragically hip band is pretty good, had not listened to them before. also like the Italian singer. My father used to sing Italian classical songs in the shower when I was growing up. But those are good, I will look more into the 2nd two. Of course I know about Stevie, she was incredible. You have pretty good taste from what I have seen. I still go with my Cyndi link though.

edit: you score emotional points when you collapse on the floor at the end of the song.

Thanks man smile.gif And I truly enjoyed your Cindy link. I saw her in concert when I was about 7 or 8. My aunt took me as "Girls just wanna have fun" kind of night. She's amazing in concert.... and you are so right about scoring emotional points when collapsing on the floor wink.gif

As for The Hip well I can't say enough good things about them. They are just a great rock and roll band. If you ever get the opportunity to see them live do so. You won't be sorry. I could gush all day long about them but if you truly are interested in them let me know as I can give you a list of recommended listening smile.gif

Here is some other great vocals from Downie. He's just energy and emotion throughout a whole concert.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv1vdsH8tS8&feature=related

One other thing about The Hip is their songs are amazing stories. Downie is an amazing lyricist and poet.
