I prefer Mark Tremonti when it comes to riffs and songwriting in general, he's one of my favorite guitarists. Synyster Gates on the other hand has more melodic solos that make more sense to me, and seem more structured; they're sort of like a song in a song.

You gave very clever reasons for the choices. I agree with you about both descriptions...

Mark is a more skilled and seasoned musician in my opinion - maybe I am holding sides just because I love Creed, Alter Bridge and his solo album. I never quite liked S-Gates' stuff, so maybe I am rushing to a conclusion here. But hell, Mark is among my favorites and I respect him a lot for the way he writes.

Mark Tremonti for me hands down smile.gif

Since Gabriel introduced me to Alter Bridge a few years ago (I was never much of a Creed fan) I have become a huge fan of Mark Tremonti. (Definitely in my top 3 as far as guitarists go) I've gone back and listened to his Creed stuff and I have a new appreciation for it, although I still dislike Scott Stapp's voice (matter of opinion i guess) but the song writing and riffs speak for themselves. I am listening to his solo album as I type this and it is brilliant in my opinion. Solid song writing, classic Tremonti riffs and he doesn't have a bad voice either smile.gif

To be honest I haven't listened to much of Synyster Gates work to really say whether I like or dislike him. I was never a big fan of A7X but I always liked the guitar work. I agree with what Mudbone said in that his solo's are very melodic. If I listen to him more I'm sure I'd become a fan but for right now my vote goes with Tremonti.

Yeah, it has been a while. Work has kept me pretty busy the last little while. Sent me to Belize and now planing for Jamaica next month smile.gif Have I mentioned I love my job LOL!! I have been going threw some family stuff as well so have been a bit preoccupied.

As for my other two favourite guitarist it would be Jimmy Page and Slash. As like everyone else, I'm sure, I have so many favourite guitarist but Page, Slash and Tremonti would be top three based on the music I like to play and listen too and also who has inspired me most to start and continue playing the guitar.

As for inspiration you'd be up there too Gabe smile.gif I have always enjoyed your lessons and well we sort of share a brain cell when it comes to music smile.gif I haven't had a chance lately to do many lessons but I have been trying to figure out more stuff on my own. I have been playing my acoustic mostly but once stuff slows down a bit I hope to be able to get back at some lessons. Life always likes to get in the way... I need to win the lotto so can focus more on guitar playing LOL!!

Hope all is well... we should chat soon smile.gif

Slash, Page and Tremonti!! That's an amazing election! Slash is the reason why I have chosen guitar... and I think that Page is the reason why Slash has chosen guitar too... smile.gif
