Beginner Bushido Task 7 Options

Greetings warriors ! There is excitement in The Temple as we unveil the new challenge !

Task 7 : https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Classic-Punk-Ramones/

We're going punky this time as you will be getting to grips with some up tempo chord changes ! There is also quite a bit of palm muting and fast down strokes so it's quite a physical riff fest this week !

This will test your fretting hand with the chord shifts.. try to keep them in time and as tight as you can.

Ha a punk lesson from Gabriel, that's exactly what the kind of music I'm working on at the moment (I'm doing a cover of California Uber Alles from Dead Kennedys with a friend) Couldn't be better.
I'll do my best to make a good rec, I need to work on timing as it is a big issue for me... (slowly with metronome blablabla )

Here is my take, I had fun with this one !



it would have been ready earlier if I didn't realize at the last minute that Gabriel plays this at 180bpm instead of 160 ! Which was a complete new challenge for me.

Here I still have a few issues to work on...First my picking hand is too tense, and my palm muting also needs work. 2 days ago I was wondering why I had some sort of "woofy" bass sound when palm muting so I started asking myself hundreds of questions like :

- Does it come from too much bass on my amp/preamp/EQ settings ?
- Is it my cab and/or choice of microphone which creates this ?
- Do I need to make a new pod farm tone to see if I reproduce this ?

After checking all of the above for countless hours I think I found the unbearable truth : the problem came from me ! My picking hand was too close to the bridge which caused the strings to vibrate for a longer time...

I wondered if you are able to play this lesson using only down strokes for the main riffs ? That would be a good challenge ! It's the way Gabriel plays it in the lesson and most likely the way the bands like the Ramones would play it too.

Your alternating strumming technique works too.. there's nothing wrong with that but the down stroke approach may be worth exploring However, it may be because of the fast tempo you chose alternate strumming ?

In some places you went ahead a bit, so you have plenty of energy in reserve ! Try to lock into the beat more and be careful of rushing ahead.

Your palm muting is good. I like the fact that you looked closely at what you were doing and found your answers. You are right.. if you hold your hand too close to the bridge then you don't mute the strings as much and the notes ring out more. If it's too close to the neck then it can be a bit boomy and you lose the notes.. there is a sweet spot somewhere in the middle

Your feedback is reassuring ! I feel like I am on the right path here.

Regarding my strumming I tryed to play it like Gabriel does in his slow motion videos, now that you mention it I have to admit I didn't look closely at his main video until now, I should be able to play this lesson only with downstroke. I'll look into that later

Hey, that was really super tight, I'm really impressed !!

I haven't really got anything to add... stop being too good !! Haha

Yes, about standing up... I always try to practise standing up. It can be tiring but I find that if I spend too much time (especially if I'm working on a technique) sat down, when I go to stand up it feels like I've got to re orientate myself for quite a while and I lose some of the confidence that I had in the technique, which is annoying.

If you're just playing around or composing, or even just memorising a new solo or lesson I think sitting down is cool for that, but for the real drilling of technique it's useful to get used to doing it stood up as early as you can

Hi Alex, this is really good.. very tight rhythm playing. Try to make those chord changes smoother around 0:15 and 0:17. The middle chord (F#5) seems to get lost during this section. So make sure that each chord leaps out
