* You haven't missed my latest video lessons, have you?

* Oh and did you know that to become a killer guitarist you just need to focus on one thing? Everything
else is secondary. Pm me and I will explain.

Thanks for the dedicated thread, Cosmin! I do have a recording or two. This one is Kick the Chair - Megadeth. I recorded separate guitar parts for left/right pan. Unfortunately I cannot solo to save my life, so the solo parts are just noise. I really didn't even try to learn them, and soloing isn't my forte.

A tad embarrassing!

Mate smile.gif Listen here and listen good - ypu have all it takes to become a good guitarist! Your rhythm chops sound uber tight! A guitarist that has good rhythm can develop good lead skills smile.gif It is compulsory as I see it, so we'll just take it step by step.

I would be curious on how you would fare with a finger independence exercise to start off smile.gif What say you?

Looks perfect for me! Getting those patterns down and in time with my picking hand is extremely difficult. I've always wondered how people get around the little/ring finger fretting problem. Need to disconnect those tendons!

Thank you for the post, matey. I'll keep you updated with my progress.

Still getting the fingering strength up, but as I'm here to check in, any tips you can give me on a nice metal tone? I don't like to use too high a gain, since it loses the natural sound of the string, but without the gain you don't get the distortion.

Using an ESP LTD 401 with 60n/81b.

Hey man - I agree on that, but tell me what sort of a device are you using to get your tone from? Amp or modeling software?

On the recording above I used Guitar Rig 5. I have a Marshal MG100DFX 100w amp too, but not a microphone.

Hmmm, I don't have any experience with modeling software, though what I could say is, that you can tweak the tone that you currently have in parallel with listening to the one in the original recording until it sounds close enough.

That's how I'd do it and usually, tweak the highs, mids and bass, gain on a particular amp model you will use in the Guitar Rig 5. I use analogue devices such as this one:

It's far easier and nicer to get a good tone and record straight away into your soundboard - at least for me smile.gif

Thanks for that, Cosmin. Very informative. So with the pre-amp, you just go Guitar -> Preamp -> Computer? Or Guitar -> Preamp -> Amp -> Mic -> Computer?

I ask because while I enjoy the software modelling, it doesn't emulate the FEEL of the playing that I'm looking for. Something that's evident in any of Megadeth's music. The rhythm always has a lot of personality and feel to it, without being insanely overdriven.
