I have about 1400 dollars and this guy is offering me a mint condition (only played twice) Double Cutaway Les Paul Standard for 1000 dollars with a locking case, (which is worth about 200-250 dollars.) Its a little more than I wanted to spend but it seems well worth it. So should I go for it or not.

I wouldn't do it personally... But I don't like Double cutaways LP's anyways . I think you can get better instruments for the price.

It is a decent price even if only used a couple times but first before you spend any amount of money on gear.. go down to your local guitar store and live in there for a couple of days.. No need to spend your money and then find out a couple months down the road you don't like it.

I have been playing them for quite some time and I like them a lot. Even if I don't like it I could probably sell it for a couple hundred dollar profit.

well if you like it, and you get a good price, sure. do look on ebay for done deals on them, to see what you could sell it for.
I am sure I would like it.

make sure it is in good condition. don't trust anybody other than a very close (i mean very close) friend or family. if you can't inspect it yourself, get a shop to. make sure the neck is not twisted. and that the truss rod can be adjusted.

i am not saying the guy is not honest, but unless you know him real well, are very close, you can't know that. I had a friend screw me on a car years ago. just a friend, not a close friend.

less of a friend after that, much less from my perspective.

edit: disregard if you know this, but you can get a good idea about the neck by fretting it at the 1st fret and the fret where it joins the body, on the high E and low E string, and seeing that the relief is about the same.

actually you can have a bit more on the bass side, in fact I have a les paul that is Plek'ed, and they intentionally put more relief on the bass side. But that is rare. In nearly all guitars, if the neck is good, the relief is about the same on both sides. and also knowing that the truss rod can be adjusted. sometimes they can't and that is real bad.

Well he only lives 60 some miles away I'll for sure play it thougholy before I buy it.



Thats exactly what I thought I just wanted a little emotional support, first of all I cling to money and spending is very hard for me, and a thousand dollars is a lot of money.

My best advice is don't rush it, take your time to see every detail about these guitars, go to the guitar store and try anything similar that you can find. If the guy pushes you to do the buy, something can be wrong there. Just do your homework and learn everything you can find about that LP.
In the end if the guitar is OK, go ahead and buy it it is a good buy.
