Jan 21 2007, 09:20 AM	GMC:er Posts: 108 Joined: 17-January 07	Easy to combine. Grab a scale or chord progression. I'll use this as an example, G, D, C and E minor. There's a way of playing a G chord where you hold the note above your pinky (3rd fret. B string) , with your middle finger. When changing to D keep that finger in place. This is called a Common note. When changing to C, Just change completely, It's all about practice, but most chords have a common note. From C to minor, keep your middle finger on the 3rd fret D string. If you want to go from a D power chord to a basic G chord, you would just go straight to the open G chord I guess. You would just go to the open chord(I do it all the time) but there is no shortcut way since open chords have different fingerings - unlike power chords where you can keep the same fingerings and just move up and down the fretboard. Another thing is to think about what you are trying to accomplish, since powers and opens have different sounds. Powers usually sound good with Distortion(Since your eliminating the higher notes), where as open chords have the higher notes and can sometimes sound bad with distortion.
