The focus rite pre amps are quite nice smile.gif They do make a version that is similar that serves as an actual audio interface for those working "in the box" like me smile.gif

That's is true. There is Sapphire Pro 40 interface that is very similar to this device. Both have same 8 pres (Octopre having padded inputs), but Sapphire having firewire interface. In fact, Octopre was designed as logical expansion device for Pro 40 (not only Pro 40 but they look very similar too, so putting them in rack one against each other will look and feel very natural).
They cost the same, but Octopre is 8pres with ADAT, so they can be used in standalone I believe and in various ways. I was reading that Sapphire works in standalone mode, but not sure about that. Perhaps with new models it is possible.
