GMC Forum _ Gabriel Leopardi _ Pentatonic Shred Collab

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Oct 21 2011, 06:45 PM

Hey guys!! Welcome to my new collab called "Pentatonic Shred Collad". This one is based in my latest lesson called http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Pentatonic-Shred-Licks/".

This lesson is open to guitar players of all levels so it isn't necesary to play fast on your takes. You can just compose a cool solo using Pentatonic minor scale + Chromatics notes. All the theory behind this can be find in the lesson in which this collab is based. One important thing is that this backing modulates from A minor to E minor (at 00:17). So Pay attention to that change.

Hi Bibomoris! You can join! You need a multi-track software where you can import this backing track and record your solo. Then you have to export two mp3 files from there,,, one with the mix and your solo and another one only with your solo. When you have this files, you have to post them here.
Some multi-tracks that you can use are Reaper, Nuendo, Cubase, Sonar, Pro Tools, Vegas... there are lots of softs. I'm not sure if there are some free ones but you can search with google.

Let me know if you need more help with this. I can guide you during the process.

I mean that you have to export two mp3 files from the multi-track. The first one must include the backing + the solo and the second one only the solo.

Posted by: Gitarrero Nov 19 2011, 09:04 AM

Haha, Todd still has the impression that Germany is for metal fans what Mecca is to the muslims...a holy place where every metalhead must go to once in his life. Omly to find out that german mainstream radio and billboard charts is full of pop music like Rihanna, Lady Gaga and such. Not to forget some winners of german casting shows...

Say it isn't so! smile.gif Seriously though, I get that Metal isn't the only music in Germany, or in Europe. But by comparison, there are more active Metal bands releasing music and actually charting and touring than there probably is in my entire country. Metal here is seriously underground. American Metal bands have to go to Europe to tour! I was in GNOSTIC for a while before they got signed and we played dive bars. Then when they go to Europe (The drummer also plays in Atheist) they play these HUGE festivals. Then they come back, and it's back to dive bars. It's just a different world here. By comparison, it really does seem like Metal Mecca smile.gif

Metal is also underground here in Argentina. There are only 2 or 3 bands than play for many people (maybe 8000 persons). The other bands play for 100 persons..

Okay, you're right, we have a couple of huge Metal Festivals and get to enjoy tours of many great metal bands in somewhat big venues (500 people to 10.000 people).
Didn't know that metal bands in America have to play in small venues...how about Iced Earth, Kamelot, Blind Guardian or Maiden? Where do they play?

Maiden plays in Stadiums for around 30000 persons... Blind Guardian plays for around 1000/2000 persons I think... the other ones for 1000 or less...

but.. all that people that goes to see Maiden rarely goes to see local metal bands...

Just to give some perspective, Kamelot came out recently (With Simone Simmons from Epica singing lead no less!) and played a little dive called the Masquerade. It's a run down ramshackle of a venue in bad part of town. The club has a STANDING SEATING LIMIT (meaning all chairs are taken out) in the "hell" room where metal bands play of 1000 PERSONS. That's it. The night of the show, I called and they had "TONS" of tickets left, the room was half empty.

ICED EARTH is coming to Masquerade in 2012, here is a vid of Blind Guardian playing Masquerade when they were here a while ago. And the guy shooting is standing near the back of the space.

So yeah, these great bands, that play to huge crowds, and big festivals, come over here and most of the time can't even pack the little masquerade lounge. It's honestly lame. The only good thing about it is that the Metal fans here are pretty hardcore. Anyone who is in to Heavy music isn't doing it because it's popular or hip. They do it cause they dig it. So there is a purity to it and a fanatic devotion which is good smile.gif The scene isn't filled with poseurs as it was quite a while back. It's just die hard fans.

I'll be working on it this week!! The last days have been so crazy because of a Cirse's show but I'm 100% back! smile.gif

Here is my fixed backing smile.gif It's a bit drenched in wah wah and delay, but it seemed to work with the backing. Let me know what you think smile.gif

Hey guys!! This is the final mix and comments for this amazing collab! smile.gif

Bibomoris:
First of all thanks for your take! I think that the notes that you chose sounds really good over the backing. However I think that your playing sound a bit shy. Try to play the notes stronger and the ideas with more confidence adding some vibrato and bends to get a more expressive take. Another think that you should work a bit is your tone. I would add more sustain to your sound, maybe a tube screamer pedal or something similar. If you prefer this clean tone that you used I would equalize it a bit to lowering the higher frequencies to make it sound warmer. So, you have good ideas and it’s time to take it to a new level! Keep on working! smile.gif

Gitarrero:
Hi “German Guy” tongue.gif. Thanks a lot for your take. I think that it’s a good take. Every note sounds good and excepting a little detail in the faster last lick, you played everything perfectly. Regarding the phrasing I think that you could work on each phrase a bit more and try to create phrases that relate to each other to give more sense to the ideas. (Does this make sense?). I like your tone on this one but I would add some more presence or treble to the Eq to make it sound clearer. Keep on rocking!

Markblack:
Hey man! Thanks for joining the collab. I must say that this is one of my favorite takes since it sounds like a professional solo. Each part is interesting and is related to the next one. The evolution of the solo is just perfect as well as your technique and tone. I love the take starting from that perfect bends to the last alternate picking licks. Congrats for your playing and creativity!

Nimrandir:
Hi! You are a demon man! Your take is killer and if this were a competition you would be the winner! The tune starts with really cool phrases and ideas played with the confidence and feeling of a professional guitar player. In the last part you play some fast licks that really blow my mind. I just have to congrats you for your awesome playing! Thanks for joining the collab. Keep on rocking the site! smile.gif

Quadrium:
Hey man! Thanks for your take! It sounds really good. There are some really cool licks in the first section. I like those bends and hammerings! Then I think that it is a bit repetitive and basing on the first part I’m sure that you could do something much better. I think that your guitar has some little tuning issues, I don’t know if this is because the calibration, old strings or just that it was a bit out of tuning. Check it out!

Superize:
Nice playing man. I like the feel of your take and I think that you did a excellent balance between shredding and melody. I really enjoy your take and I think that there is nothing to improve on this one. It’s a perfect take, with a perfect tone and flawless playing. Keep on the great job!

Todd:
I have to say that it’s a honor for me to have you here in this collab Todd. You composed an amazing solo which is very fun to hear. You played it perfectly as always and the only comment that I would do is that it seems that the take has too much effect and it makes it sound a bit less clear... but maybe it's a matter of taste wink.gif. Thanks for joining mate! I think that this is a good solo to share in one of your videochats! smile.gif
