Before we move ahead soldier I really want to see you try this drill so find if there are any gaps in your technique/mute. This will impact pretty much everything.

Hello Sarge,

I couldn't work out that lick but I referenced the first mute drill you posted ( https://youtu.be/M4UhF9E8atA ) and also did a double picked penta scale thing. Sorry about the sound sync, it was only the headphone feed from my Scarlett into my laptop.

Cheers

Awesome!! That's what I was hoping to see smile.gif I tried the other drill as an alternate. it's much more complex but covers some of the same ground. I just want to see you mute in action across the strings. The good news is your mute is very solid and you don't drift or lift during your play. You have a very solid muting technique Soldier and this is the very foundation of being able to play well imho. if the mute is bad, you get string noise which never helps during a solo or even rythm.

I liked the penta lick as well but I must say I did notice a bit of drift in terms of your picking. Your mute is solid as a rock but I can see a bit of hesitancy on your picking as if your picking hand is not always sure which string it's meant to be hitting. This is quite normal on these types of licks where it's mult strikes combined with traverse and I"m sure we can work it out as wel go. Your mute is solid, the rest we can fix on the way!!!

Nice!

Thanks Sarge,

The hesitancy on the picking could be because I was just winging it and didn't really have a plan. As I was doing the penta thing I was thinking, "shall I do a straight double picked scale run or go back and forwards across the strings?".

Cheers

Soldier well done on playing these at all given your injuries. This requires a HUGE stretch and I'm thinking you may be in pain while you are playing these bits. If that is the case I'd like you to change to adapt them to your physical limits. E.G. reduce the number of frets involved or play the entire thing higher on the neck so that your not forcing your hand in to a super wide stretch which will aggravate your injuries.

After seeing how well you picked the first bit in your last demo video, I think your mute / picking is better than is on display in these two drills. Mod both of these to just have less of a stretch. I notice in the first one that you are moving your hand a bit more than I'd like to see as you play. The idea is to plant your hand and just tilt it to reach the low all the way to the high string. Put it dead center and tilt up to reach the low e and tilt forward to reach the rest. however, if this is not physically possible, please let me know and we will just move on.

In the second one, I notice that you lose your mute and I start hearing some string noise in the middle. This is a mute drill created for the purpose of showing any gaps in the mute. The finger part is really there just to distract you so that I can see what you mute hand does while the brain isn't thinking about it.

Give me one more on these two and just reduce the stretch, center the hand on the bridge and see if you can eliminate any string noise. Let me know if this is possible!

Onward!

Sarge

Hello Sarge,

Here is another attempt, I think I need to get another seat for my holiday home, this one is a little too low so I can't position my right hand how I'd like meaning I'm having to slide across the strings a little with my muting hand.

Good progress Soldier! BOOTCAMP is all about progress and you've made very good gains. Your picking/muting is improved and your finger dexterity is better as well. I know this has got to hurt a bit given your current injuries so well done on sticking it out and playing it as written. it's meant to force the hand to a crazy stretch while the muting hand tries to keep up with muting and picking. It's a lot to put together at once. You did a great job on this Soldier and you are ready for what comes next!!

I know the feeling Sarge.

Regarding the badge download, I'm fine with how you've always done it, Chrome still allows a save as jpg or png, it's only Firefox that is funky. Thanks for putting the separate download though, I just don't want you to have extra work wink.gif

I'm going for 34c Sarge. That seems to encompass a and b too so I'm on it wink.gif

I'm up to 220bpm at the moment.

Its the trickiest one of the bunch!! If your up to 220 you have already done quite well! I applaud your determination to go beyond 220! As they say " A good death is it's own reward", in this case a good shred!

Still an impressive speed on these licks with the wide stretch. I've been doing this type of lick for a long time as a warmup and after several years of playing them, I've gotten them to flow quite smoothly. It's just a matter of time. I don't expect you to spend years working this up before your mission vid. Just enough to where you are happy with it smile.gif

looking good Soldier!! WELCOME BACK!!

I want to ask how does this lick feel? It's intentionally built with an open string and only one strike per string to allow the hand to play it smooth and quick. Does it feel smooth and comfortable?

Also I love your Shirt Soldier!!!! I wanted to hear your thoughts on this before I did your Combat Review!!

It feels okay Sarge, obviously the injury hinders a little bit with that stretch but no excuses it is what it is. I am going to sort some physio out next week, it's starting to get worse again, as per usual, no pain but it's as though only a quarter of the shoulder muscle fibres are working and half of the forearm muscles fibres rolleyes.gif

It actually feels more comfortable at 300bpm.

Would you like me to push to 350bpm Sarge or would you lie more precision?

Cheers

This one is good to go!!! You are doing great on this especially considering you are playing with an injury! I tagged on a bit at the end of the video that I'd like you to try to add to your practice routine if possible. Just a couple of minutes each sessions. Nothing more. It's a way to add some speed in to your daily routine without adding stress to your hand/arm.

As for this one, NICE! You got this Soldier! You are playing well here. Good call on the metronome. Too often players use too few clicks. It's impossible to use too many. The more the better imho. it lets you slice time down to the point where you know what is happening at each point. You are following along very well with the tempo and keeping a solid mute which is the core of this entire Mission. For more, here is your debrief vid!!

You got this! You just..

LEVELED UP!!!
