UPDATE!! I've worked on the mix again with the feedback given (THANKS VERY MUCH!!!) and I've tweaked keikos backing vocals so that they don't interfere with the timing. Now just more of a gentle texture at the end. Please let me know what you think of this version smile.gif It starts right where the vocal begins. I love the new vocal. I had no idea we had such a great singer here at GMC! If this mix works I'm gonna the final touch guitar solo wink.gif

I think it's much better this way, but I would be have the vocals a bit louder (1 dB maybe?) in the chorus as they're sitting a bit low in the mix, I think. I know it's gonna sound sacrilegious as a guitar player, but I think the guitar kinda overpowers the vocals a bit in the chorus. It's not a big change that's needed, just sort of balancing it out a bit to hit that sweetspot - either guitars down a bit or vocals up a bit. It's not by much though smile.gif

I think it's coming along great though!

Definitely sounding good now.
I do agree with Storm that thinning out or pulling down the guitars in the choruses is probably a good idea. Even if it's just so that you've got somewhere to go in the last chorus.

Thanks much guys! I hear what you are saying. I think you are all correct. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to listen! It has really helped this track. Also, the vocals are just killer now due to the efforts of one of our own smile.gif He will be featured in the video as well!

Ok, after much remixing/balancing, here is the latest iteration. I can't thank you guys enough for helping to basically produce this track!!! I plan on giving all of you proper credit of course when it finally does get released.

This is the most updated version. I am so thankful to you guys!!! I have added the keyboard solo that was missing. It's very close now. I wanted to ask you guys to give it a listen and see what you think!!

And there I was thinking you'd do the original solo but as harmony lead guitar biggrin.gif
The tweaks are good there's more clarity in the chorus now

Todd, I can't believe how this started and how it sounds now. The difference it's huge and I really like the result. smile.gif

I tried something on your track (because I don't have your original track, I had to stole it from your Soundcloud and go with this through a convertor biggrin.gif).
After the mix is ready I usually use an external plug-in (Cool Edit Pro) to make some tiny tweaks and give a sound closer to the commercial music (a radio kind of feel).
Anyway, I made just a test to show you guys what I was talking about. wink.gif

Cool Edit Pro I started my digital recording journey with that. Are you also Peter Quistgard?

Could the vocals in the verse be just a slight pinch louder?

Or perhaps some sidechain compression (ducking?) somehow between the vocals and snare drum? I'm not an expertise on those things or know if that's something that's usually done between vocals/drums. I've seen it done (and used it myself) between other instruments.

Or just lower the snare a bit in the verse? I feel like the vocals are just ever so slightly too low in the mix in the verse parts. It's such a small amount though, but almost like they're not the main focus - like I think they should be there smile.gif

That was the user name (and serial number) that was passed around the internet in the 90s/ early 2000s for the pirated version/

I know with a long time ago was a "user" who gave this free. That's why "he" was blamed and loved by many.
In the latest years things changed...so....no Peter Quistgard. wink.gif

Thanks for taking a listen and making a tweak smile.gif sounds like a mastering pass? I haven't gotten that far yet since it's still being mixed. I sometimes put a mastering chain on the master bus but I didn't want to impact the mix quite yet as it's still in flux. I like how it's sounding though! I do plan on doing a mastering pass on for sure.

I hadn't thought about using side chain compression but it's a good idea!!
