Hi Joe here, after the great thread about camera I'd like to talk a little about codecs, that I think makes the differences in quality more than camera itself.

I acquire in DV quality (I hope the best one) and I use Divx codecs set to 320 x 240 pixels, 900 kbps to export final video editing.

The video are very small from 5mb to 10mb and video quality doesn't seems to suffer.

What do you think? What do you use? Any suggestions?

Let's Discuss biggrin.gif

I use wmv different quality settings, depending on the video and it's nature. If it is a SVA I tend to use 93% quality VBR preset, on main 100%, and on slows 97%.

I export file as Avi with Xvid codec.
Before that I used to export it as a Mov. with Sorenson codec
but it's much better this way,Avi with Xvid.

Is .avi with Divx the same as .avi with Xvid?

Thanks

Hmm,good one.

As far as I know DivX and Xvid are different codecs, both are good though. I guess my setup is the most primitive one in the moment, I just use my Logitech webcam and it records in wmv-files. No idea about compression settings, I am using the default ones but the result is pretty fine in my opinion.

Yes, XVid and DivX are definitely different, although I believe they have common roots and are variants of each other.

Xvid and Divx are different codecs, but they have the same container which is .avi file.

I was working with avi before wmv, and got some bad results. I think maybe (at least here) wmv is better codec to work, but it's all down to personal prefference really smile.gif

Good luck man smile.gif
