For a quick yet still powerful tool I suggest using the ignite amps tpa1 plug-in; http://www.igniteamps.com/en/audio-plug-ins

Its a very trasparent poweramp plug-in, sweetens more than shapes so pretty much and chain can use it. There is a knob behind it called resonance, I set it default to middle and add/subtract depending on the backingtrack/mix.
