Hey guys n girls,

Some big words: The way I see it - our community is defining a new way of looking at practicing, learning and perhaps guitar playing in general. We are setting new standards for ourselves - and heck, for the whole web (which is still a young beast by the way).

Now what could be more suitable than if GMC got it's own wikipedia - so we can set our way of life in stone? - Well my friends it's soon here, the GMC GuitarWiki.

Henrik is now working on the last development aspects of the GMC GuitarWiki - we will then have a fully functioning - but empty - Wikipedia.

So now I want to check if anybody is interested in being invited as a special contributor to the new GMC GuitarWiki? If you are interested, please notify me here - so we can start building some content before we open it up for everyone.

hmmm you definitly need to talk with Dave, he can contribute alot with all of his knowledge of guitarists, I can contribute some by maybe doing some interviews with GMC'ers and get some info bout GMC'ers there and how they are progressing.

Well basically everything guitar/music related goes in there - the way I see it. Perhaps a little extra focus on guitar technique, guitar theory and guitarists in the beginning...

I haven't created a wiki before so I am not completely sure...I know Henrik has though! smile.gif

I think this is a cool idea smile.gif

One thing we can do is capture those types of questions that come up a lot in a sort of FAQ section.

The best thing about a Wiki is that anyone with anything to contribute can do so - everyone has something different to add, here are a few ideas off the top of my head:

Frequently Asked Questions
Articles on different types of guitars - pros/cons (not reviews as such, more physical differences like hardtail vs tremelo
How tos, like:

Changing strings on a Floyd Rose
Setting the intonation
Setting up an effects chain
...

Stories about things that inspired people
What caused breakthroughs in technique
How to record yourself
How I built my own guitar from scratch
A Tour of various musical styles - lists of artists albums etc

Prog Rock
Metal
Blues
Classic Rock
Jazz
Fusion
Deat Metal

There are so many others ... I think a lot of this stuff could be based on posts that people have already made.

The other great thing about a Wiki is that it is collabarative - I could start an article on recording, and leave a gap or stub on recording with say ProTools because I have never done it. Someoen could later come along and fill it in.

So I would say, look at it this way ... most people have an aspect of guitar that they know a lot about - just write an article on it!

One other thing - I presume you would need to be a GMC member to add or edit an entry - Wikis often get spammed if left open. I'm sure You and Henrik have thought about that though!

How about a Complete Beginners Section.

For people who have never even Touched a guitar in their Lives.

They can Learn the Basic Essentials that Everyone should Know about guitar, (even non Guitar players could learn from that, i.e: What is a Pickup, Tuning Strings etc.)

Guitar Wiki....

I give the Idea Two Thumbs Up! cool.gif

Awesome things said here! It's really nice to hear you guys like the idea. smile.gif

Andrew: Great explanation/visualisation.

All GMC members will be able to contribute to the wiki (ie no guests) - however, before we open it up for all members and have a link to it the GMC menu, we need some content. And contributors to that content is what we are now looking for!

Awesome idea!
Maybe after there is a substantial amount of content in there it could even be turned into a book.
I would love to contribute as well!
