Johnny Marr anyone? I know this guy is not a shredder, and not the typical guitar hero. But I really thought the work he did with The Smiths back in the 80's was extremely creative, beautiful and original. Anyone else like his playing? I'd love to hear a good Johnny Marr lesson on here.
Johnny Marr and the Smiths are legendary and largely got me through the 80's; they were a real antedote to the rubbish that was assailing the radio. Great songs, superb lyrics and melody lines, and Marr's competent and creative playing made punk guitarists do a re-think of what it meant to play guitar [or that you could do it with a great attitude].
Can't name a favourite Smiths song because a friend introduced me to them by way of a cassette compilation and I kept playing it over and over thinking 'EVERY song is superb'. [maybe "How Soon is Now?"]
Glad other GMC members like the Smiths. I was starting to think that most were metal fans for a while but reading their comments has been an eye-opener as they seem to be open to a wider range of styles than I thought previously. Maybe its because they are musicians that they love all types of music as opposed to just non-muso 'fans' of one style.
By the way, is your forum name a tribute to another great band, the Wedding Present? [Seamonsters is a brilliant album]
