UAD had this deal where they would give you a free "Satellite" (external uad processor card) if you bought a compressor. So my buddy bought 2 and got 2 free satellites!! The Satellite box costs about a thousand bux so it was an amazing deal. The compressors are pretty amazing in and of themselves.

But I swear, the plugin version (with satellite hardware) sounds just as good. I can't wait to hear the SHADOW HILLS MASTERING COMPRESSOR plugin UAD is adding next revision!

If I remember correctly the 610 is a bit of hybrid as it's almost like a leveling preamp. The compression circuit is based on the vintage Teletronik LA2A and is an opt compressor.
You might find that it's not aggressive enough for rock. It may also be a bit slow to track fast transients. Should be nice though for vcals and some acoustic instruments.
You might want to swop the stock tubes on the 610 at some point if you want to mod it smile.gif.

The Shadow Hills hardware version is a very good VCA compressor. I'll be interested to see what you make of the vst version.

This is an Optical Comp and it does sound Killer on Vocals smile.gif The UAD stuff is sort of half VST, half Hardware, in that they are not just using Software, but leverage UAD hardware accelleration to provide a level of sonic detail that a software only VST can't often match. The UAD processor cards are not cheap, but IMHO the UAD plugins sound just amazing. Far and away the best emulations of actual hardware that I've ever heard. Short of spending tens of thousands of dollars on actual hardware, the UAD stuff is as close as one might get.

There is a UAD version of several optical compressors. Here is a list.

http://www.uaudio.com/store/plug-in-bundle...ors-bundle.html

The UAD plugins are NOT software only, they require a UAD HARDWARE PROCESSOR in order to run. The plugins are fairly cheap, but the hardware starts at about $1000.

But they all do sound amazing.
