I love both, but I definitely hear a difference, so in the end I voted for live Both are great, in the studio you can do whatever you want, there are no limitations, while live a lot of bands just rock more. One of my very fave albums for example is Delicate sound of thinder by Pink Floyd, I love all of their studio stuff, but this live one smokes them all.

Live DVD and Studio Record... I don't care for an audio version of musicians playing live without seeing them in action and on the other hand if I can't see them I want to hear them in perfect tonal quality and without any playing mistakes on a record. i agree too, ironically im listening now to the alice in chains unplugged cd hahaha, nice one. i love the power of a live dvd, i'm in love with the "live at slane" of the red hots, everyone should check that one, perfect sound, performance, photography..., a masterpiece! -------------------- Check my Instructor Profile Rockers! I like the studio versions. But live cd-s are more fun in a way (if they are well done and cool concerts)...its cool to hear audience cheering and everything..

It just struck me here, an intersting point of view is that nowadays with all technology in the studios available, records are made such a different way than they were 30 years ago. Most musicians I admire use to play far better live than on a studio recording, since the feeling is'nt the same after 48 takes.... but this is also bout which kind of music You prefer. I rather listen to a studio album with Madonna than a live one (scary thought, both of them btw.), but in case of players like Pat Metheny, Bonamassa, Blackmore etc. I really prefer the live ones, since those guy's are improvisers and (nearly) always sounds better live, even that the sound may be crappier.

I voted for live but I almost have no preference. When something is good then I say it's good

I voted studio, but there's something very appealing about a great live band that I really enjoy. The thing is Studio music sounds so crisp, clean, fuller, etc.
