GMC Ultimate Virtual Band Challenge
Can YOU make the cut?

To All,

I'm very pleased to introduce a new program here at GMC and if all goes well, we will for sure expand it.

Now, to explain in a bit more detail, the idea is to create a Live Virtual Band with all that involves a true live setting.

The band will be Instructor led by our very own Jose Mena. He will be looking for the best of the best and if chosen, he will require the utmost dedication on your part.

Please understand going in that only the best will be considered so be prepared to accept rejection as this is part of a live audition. So, will YOU make the cut?

Auditions will be held for guitar, keys, vocals and bass. Each will be judged by Jose and picked at his discretion.

He will have his own judging criteria and may even include some process of elimination, that will be up to him.

Once chosen, this is when the real work begins. Jose will be merciless at getting the quality he is looking for.

Just like being in a live studio, you will most likely be asked for multiple takes.

This band will be a real life experience for you with real life challenges and with real life standards, great training for becoming a sessions musician or for live auditions!

If all goes well with this band, as said, we WILL be creating more GMC Ultimate Bands in the future.

So, with that said, I will ask Jose to step in and get a little more in depth with regards to the program. Good luck and

I wish you all the best at "making the cut"!

Jose, congratulations!

I'd try out, but theres so many much better than me!

Posted by: Tjchep Aug 10 2009, 05:16 PM

This is kindly intriguing, when will we receive more information?

Hello Everyone

I've been wanting to lead a GMC virtual band for some time now, I approached Steve and we came up with some ideas on how to make the virtual band something big.

We want this to be a feature on GMC, and this is why we are going to be very selective. However it doesn't mean you are required to be "Steve Vai" or "Allan Holdsworth", all are encouraged to apply.

I will be looking for

1. Good sense of rhythm timing
2. Good Guitar tone
3. Ability to produce excellent quality recordings

I think this could be a great learning experience for all of us, lets learn from each other, create music and have fun at the same time.

I look forward to seeing more information on this and seeing how it develops! smile.gif

Hah! You posted at the same time as me. I was wondering: how are the auditions going to be run?

Of course not, all are encouraged to apply, many times we are the worse critics of ourselves.

Soon, I think first what we'll do is create a new thread for uploads

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Aug 10 2009, 05:25 PM

This is great initiative, I think all members should apply, it can be a very valuable experience, and Jose is the right man for the job! smile.gif

Posted by: Mrblomme Aug 10 2009, 05:27 PM

I'll give the bass a shot! though I probably aint good enough smile.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Aug 10 2009, 05:27 PM

Awesome idea and initiative Jose - I am very interested in seeing how this develops! biggrin.gif

Would be so cool if we could get more gmc collab full songs!

Awesome idea. I'm going to wait for some more information concerning the auditions before making a decision (which will ultimately most definitely be a refusal of proving my worthless talent) ! biggrin.gif

No drums?

Posted by: Jose Mena Aug 10 2009, 05:55 PM

So I have started a new thread in the virtual bands section, for uploads and applications

WOW cool ideas. Maybe in future it is possible to make some bands sorted by skill. So that there will be a more beginner band and intermediate and advanced band with diffrent criterias to sign up.

I think it's a great experience for those whho get in this band!

I didn't think we had drummers here, do you play drums?, can you record them

Drums is one of the toughest things to record. So I thought we'd go with programmed drums, but if anyone here can play drums and has a way of recording them nicely I'd be interested

I use Roland V-Tours...so they record pretty well. I can give you a sample, if you like, and see if it will be sufficient.

Cheers!

I'd like to try out for rythm guitar and maybe vocals, so this sounds cool smile.gif

Cool, you can upload a demo on the upload thread in the virtual bands section.

Question, if required could you provide the midi data instead of the audio?

What samples do you use?

Jose

Posted by: Canis Aug 10 2009, 06:44 PM

Sounds interesting, indeed!
I'm gonna try out just for the heck of it ^^

Yes, I can provide the midi data. I use Superior Drummer 2 for VST. I have access to EZDrummer as well. I'm very new to recording this with MIDI, so if you can bare with some growing pains, I use a Firewire controller so I should be able to record some quite clean tracks...providing MIDI and working with SP2 should make it even better. We'll see though. It's worth a try.

Cheers!

Well of course. In the spirit of an audition, this would be totally practical. I'm currently working through the midi recording issues, but that should be solved this week when I have more than 10 minutes to spend with it.

Cheers!
