Hej GMC!

I am new to guitar effects, so i need your advice. I am looking for a distortion/overdrive stompbox, that will cover the sound of Steve Lukather - especially the songs he did with Toto (lead sections). What kind of gain does he use? Is a medium overdrive + delay and reverb the way to go, or do i need a more hi-gain kind of pedal?

Hope you can help me out smile.gif

The best way to help mate is to maybe post a recording of your current tone! Then we can make a better judgment. Also it would help to know what you are using to currently record with. smile.gif

"Think of a guitar solo as a paragraph. You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

Thank you for the answers!

That Article is pretty sweet, Ivan. I haven't read the entire piece of text yet, but as i have read so far, he use Radial Tonebone distortion pedal, when he is using stompbox for distortion. I looked it up on youtube, so now i know what kind of distortion we are talking about. I have a Carl Martin DC drive, which i think will be able to do the trick. I will see, when i recieve my delay pedal. Have to hear them together, before i can decide if the gain is okay happy.gif

I am not able to record my current sound, as i don't have any recording equipment :/ i have to buy a microphone one day. But i am playing on stratocaster through a fender hot rod deluxe amp. I don't know if that is the best setup for lukather sound, but the amp is pretty versatile in my opinion.
