Hi guys,
Well, another anniversary post. This time by me. Looks like November of last year was quite active with new members coming on board.
It all started for me this time last year when I decided I was finally going to put in the effort to learn to play this great instrument. I have always wanted to be able to rip it up ( still can't, but on my way ) but just never could fine the time to dedicate to the practice needed.
I used to be into riding motocross and my wife was pushing for me to stop ( due to the fact it wasn't a family thing and she never knew if I would make it home in one piece.) So we made a deal. I would sell my bike and buy a guitar and amp. I guess she knew this would keep me home, and it does, just in my own world..
So I bought the gear and set out on my journey. I wanted to learn the intro to "Fade To Black" so I started searching online for some lessons. This is where I came across Kris' Freelicks site. The layout was great and it had just what I needed to learn this piece.
After practicing this lesson for a few weeks, I knew I had found the guy I wanted to learn from. At this point, I clicked the link to GMC and have never looked back. I joined immediately and can honestly say, best decision I could have made! I would be nowhere without you guys!
I have come to know so many of you, and being taught by some of the finest guitarists in the world, what more could one ask for! I'd like to thank each and every one of you who have helped me along the way and continue to do so today.
I'd like to give a special shout to our Friend Chris (Smells) for all the times he has helped me with stuff I had no idea about.
Thanks Buddy!!
I'd like to end this post with a recording that we did together. I went to him early on when I first joined and asked if he would send me some drum loops to practice with which he kindly obliged. (metronome, I know, but I just hate it.. ) After a while practicing with the loops, I had an idea to do a "Beginner/Advanced" collab where I would record the rhythm and he would lay down the solo, and man, what a solo! Please disregard the part at 15-25 secs as he insisted I try and add something.
Anyway, thanks to all of you members, instructors and staff for making GMC what it is. ROCK ON!!!
Steve Kennington

About the song: it´s sound cool, Smells´ fast licks combined with your dark riffing just fits perfectly. Well done, guys.
