Hey guys,

In order to go along with metronome practce i had an idea where we all post it in one area so we can see how each other is growing weekly and support each other. I can't wait to see everyone's progress in a month. Post the speed that you are comfortable with

I will start

Eighth Notes 182
Trippletts 124
16th Notes 96
Tripplette 16th 64

QUICK EDIT: These times represent 2 notes per string as demonstrated in the metronome video

biggrin.gif This is a good idea.

first , we need to define if the note values should be played on a single note or a more advanced exercise

Or we can just say that people are free to give the bpm value for the exercises they are most comfortable with - playing with on one note excepted. What do you think?

Oh and the winner has to upload some kind of recording - so that we don't get someone claiming they can do sixteenth notes at 209573 bpm biggrin.gif [edit: hmm maybe the purpose of this wasn't a contest - so we don't necessarily need to find a winner...]

I'll participate too. I have to get back when I have checked my top speeds.

It would be nice if we could just track them and graph them.

Two note per string madness!!!! blink.gif

all normal E-tuning

------------12--14--
---12--14----------- repeat

16th notes: 158 (yay!)
- started with downstroke then alternate picked everything -

(economy picking works better for this but I still have to learn/practice that technique)

-

-----------14-------- repeat
-----12--------------

8th notes: 215 (so annoying laugh.gif )
-started with downstroke then altenate picked everything -

-

------------------------12--14-----
-------------12---14--------------- repeat
--12---14--------------------------

16th note triplets: 85
-started with downstroke then altenate picked everything -

-

----------------------*tick*-12--13--14--
*tick*--12--13--14-----------------------

triplets: 180
-started with downstroke then altenate picked everything -

Cool idea xhernan!

Yeah, just make sure you keep your old numbers so you and everyone can see how you improved biggrin.gif

If there was a "contest" - (and like Kris said maybe that's not the point.... )
but if there was a contest one way to do it fairly is to choose the "winner" based
on improvement :

example:
If you start 16th note tiplets at 50 bpm and at the end you are doing them at 70 bpm= you improved 40%

Someone starts 16th note triplets at 104 bpm and gets to 120 they improved by 15%

The first guy wins (even though he is 'slower' at 16th note triplets)

hope my math is right....

I seem fairly close to Xhernan in speed -

Following Kris' metronome lesson I started playing 16 note triplets using one of the diagonal runs he showed us in the Pentatonic shifting lesson ....

I started out playing the run around 54 bpm 16th note triplets (6 notes per beat) this morning I was doing them at 70... that's about 30% faster in about a month (I guess it's about a month since the metronome lesson) ... anyway

It doesn't seem like I'm that much faster becasue I'm still not where I want to be..
but if someone was selling a guitar course:
" Play 30% faster in just four weeks! with just 15 minutes a day! I'd think it was a scam..

So thanks Kris.... the two lessons together worked great for me.

I think ezra's approach is good: let's just do a new thread were everyone posts their current level and then edits (but still leaving the olds speeds, as pointed out, so we can see the progress).

Further on we can have another thread with a challenge!
