String Durability?

Would you say that a locking tremolo has more string durability than a hardtail or tune-o-matic?
Whenever I attempt to go after those faster alternate picking runs, my Ibanez ARX320 feels very...flimsy, even with new strings installed. Any ideas?

my ARX is a tune-o-matic, I use .9-.42 strings, and I use a 1.0mm pick
