Per request, I thought I'd talk briefly about a new modelling plugin I"m trying called
Wow that does sound good! Really thick and for FREE!!!! IS there a limit on how long it will work in Free mode? With you effects pedals, you could just use those 2 tones as your entire sound.
It's not free for the full version of course. ($99) but that's still pretty cheap. It's free to downlowad the demo though which is what I made this sample collection and patches with
There is a 30 DAY TRIAL time limit. After that I'm guessing you have to pony up for it. But we shall see It does sound pretty darn spiff. Yet another plugin that replaces about 10 grand worth of gear for about $100 bux. But it won't do any good for folks that want to carry the big iron. Unless they rip out the guts of a head and replace it with a laptop and interface.

Finally the S-gear review is here!
Just for you actually! I was able to spend the day with it and explore the presets and make some of my own. The most interesting thing I found was that it behaves just like a tube amp does when you put a overdrive pedal ( a real, physical stomp box) before the audio interface. It drives just like a tube amp would and sounds pretty spiff
As I mentioned, I used my cheap Nux Vintage Overdrive ($30 on ebay brand new) and got a great Djenty tone for the last sample. Without the stomp box the sound is a bit soft and overly tubey, but with it, it's really sharp and crunchy

That does sound good.
It really is impressive IMHO. It's one of the more accurate tube modellers I"ve heard thus far. Many modellers claim to be good at tube mimickry but most sound like solid state with a tube soak IMHO (Dear me, I sound like a Cork Sniffing Tube Guy!!!) which is great for doing high gain mechanical crunch, but not really good enough at re creating an actual "tube response" which is something entirely different.
The S-Gear plugin seems to be much more similar in responsiveness to a given strike, than other modellers in terms of re creating what tube amps sound like when you hit them harder/softer. E.G. Dynamics.
If you have not grabbed this demo yet, it's really worth a look. I'm so impressed with the clean sounds I may have to buy it just for that. The clean sounds really blew me away. I've tried countless guitar plugins and so far this one is unique in terms of what it does and how it sounds.

I tried this, this morning quickly. I remember posting about it to you Todd, months ago but never got round to looking at it myself.
Things I like
3 Amps- rather than a gazillion. Choose and amp closest to what you want and work with it
Redwire IRs - Rather than reinvent the wheel, they went to someone already doing a great job.
Usable presets - just great tones, not showing the fulll capabilities of using everything at once with weird sci fi sounds etc
I'm sure they'll add to this, but it is a very usable product
Good points! 3 amps is a lot easier to deal with quickly. You known which one is clean/dirty/way dirty so it's really quick to pick one and turn a couple of knobs and bam. Much closer to using a real amp imho. The amps respond like real amps too.
The Redwire IR is a great idea. Every sim should just ship with all the Redwire stuff bundled
And the presets are not awful as is often the case with sims. My tones are built off existing tones case in point.
In short, this is a really nice sounding plugin that's not overly complicated. It's only a 30 day demo though, so you gotta decide pretty quick once you install it. I wish they had a free version like Amplitude Free, or guitar rig free.
Todd
I installed the demo ( only 14 days demo ) .
I like the fine and warm tone i could find right now - easy to understand - easy settings hmm will test a lot more this days ,
for me right now the different to overloud th2
more warm full sounding hmm more tube amp like ..
no disturbing noise beside
overloud sure more metal like and more settings possible as i could right now recognize
no disturbing noise too
both demos got some fine clean sounds
overloud 147 Euro schuffman 99 Euro
will be difficult decision right now for me
Yes! Very much so. I found the amps to be very warm and very "Tube Like". More so than overloud. It does a better job on clean/low/mid gain stuff by quite a margin IMHO.
Also, the default setting on the built in noise gate is very good and the plugin is very low noise to start with so it's a very quiet plugin which is a real bonus. I usually use 3 NOISE GATES on my overloud patches just to tame the hiss.
And the price point is really hard to beat. If you are just getting started in plugins, or even if you have several this is really nice product.
