GMC Forum _ Kristofer Dahl _ Kris Singing

...since it has some guitar stuff in it I thought I might post it here...
You probably know my philosophy - anybody can learn anything if he/she puts her/his ass into it. So the singing project I have had going on recently is my attempt to scientifically prove my thesis - my singing has always been pretty crappy.
It still is, of course - but now have I have started noticing a little progress so I decided to write/record a song to to put my ability to the test...
I am looking forward to your comments...so here we go, "Collection Of Sins":

I love it mate. alot better than i thought. trying to think of who you remind me of. you have a much rockier voice than myself mate. The song itself is wicked , love the rythem well catchy and could listen again an again.
Keep it up and you will have mastered something else! Is there no end to your tallent??
Did you record the lot on your own, or have you used your band to play the backing?
Great effort.

The guiatr part will definately make a lesson - and real good one I hope!
I have been holding out on
myself - right now I am thinking my singing practicing might taken me way further than I would have guessed. We'll se what I think about it tomorrow...

Anyway, great singing Kris!

So has anybody figured out what I am singing yet?

What guitar did you record this one with?
I record most things with the strat - it gives the best sound, all though the parker guitar has better "bending-playablitity" (and looks cooler! - in my opinion).

Hey Kris, I think it sounded very cool. When I first heard it, I was trying to think of what the sound reminded me of out there and the closest refererence I have is the band "System of a Down". Maybe it was the way you changed your vocals up a lot. Oh, and how does it feel to sing and play at the same time? Do you get tangled up in parts, haha...
I guess I started out doing both at the same time so I'm somewhat used to it, just curious how it would feel going from a guitarist to a vocalist/guitarist.

Well, yeah its hard at first. but I'm thinkin' that our friend (and great teacher) Kris, recorded the vocals and guitars at different times. That's just my guess.

Impressing. Really good rockin. Maybe u could put out the whole song with tabs and lyrics as a x-mas gift to us rockers smile.gif Or make a lesson out of it as "rythm guitar with licks in it"
BTW - what kind of strat is that u use? us standard highway? changed pickups?
Thanks. It will be up but not that soon. The strat is an american deluxe

The song kicks ass!
It suites your voice, although I would not have guessed you would sound like that. Hey, you're in key, a bit strained but that's obviously what you are going far, nasty lyrics BTW
Shame on you
Really nice mixing job in the recording, lots of panning and bringing things front to back, very clean.
Hehey!
Really glad you liked it - let's see if I can make some more..!

That's a wicked song
Your voice is so raw and unpolished (not in a bad way) and the guitar playing is awesome of course.
In fact, how about a lesson on the FULL song? Rythm and solos from beginning to the end?
Especially loved the "reeaaww" just at the end

Yes that could be cool - we don't have that yet - I'll think a little more about it!

Haha that's pretty good, the verses were better than the choruses. I'm off for a singing lesson in about 2 hours actually.

Indeed, thats what I miss most from freelicks and GMC.. There's no full songs. So a good lesson on that would be like how you came up with the melody, how you went from there, choose chords, key etc. and how you put it all together (song structure). Would help a lot for people like me who likes rythm guitar especially, but also the solo nuts

Oh Jeez, we need age ratings on the board!
Love the song, just shows off how good u are on that guitar - damm you!
I didn't realise you had a band, got a website for it? I'd love to listen to more of your stuff
Glad you liked it!
Actually I play everything in there, so I'm the band.
What do you mean with the age ratings? I think the boad has a rating feature which we could activate...!

Now that's just showing off! And who could blame you
I played the track on the pc while the kids were around, and with those lyrics - if you put an album together buy plenty of "Parental Guidence Advised" stickers for the box!

After seeing your Zakk Wylde post, I went hunting through Youtube to see everything else you'd posted there and was pleasantly surprised to find this post.
Amazing stuff Kris, I would actually buy an album with that sort of sound. Your track even made it onto my iPod, which is not exactly a small feat for a first effort! Post more tracks and I suspect you'll see even more downloads!

Thanks a lot Lurgen!
The extra time I get now is spent on improving my singing - in a while I will make some new recording efforts!

A few words about the lyrics.
I wanted to make a provoking/chocking rock song.
I have met whole bunch of so called rock musicians who live by the rock n roll idiom (and all that follows) and it is not something I admire. These people also tend to use this kind of language, something I can't identify myself with.
The lyrics of this song were meant to be exagerated, with a sarcastic meaning. I guess you could say I was trying to make fun of the rock n roll idiom.
I am interested in the sounds, the expression and somewhat the attitude of rock. But I despise the drugs the macho style. I wanted to write a song to illustrate that - so I played a rock star and purposely made a fool out of myself.
hmm I wonder if that made sense.
