well i think i've almost gotten the hang of recording a single track of me playing my guitar and be able to save it right for upload but i cant seem to be able to put my solo to a backing track i just cant get them to go together. the closest i've gotten is the solo will start fine and then the backing will fade in but then the solo fades out. can anyone help me out?

I don't exactly see what the problem is form your text, but this is how I do it:
Start reaper and go to insert --> Media File and click the BT you want. Now a track is created with the BT, then go to track --> insert new track. Click this and yet another track appears, then arm that seccond track so that you can record. Now just hit the red record button and there you go! Just play along.

Yes I`m not too sure what you mean, but it sounds like you may be inserting your backing track and then recording over it onto the same track?

As Kaz says, go to insert, then new track and arm that one for recording your solo, another tip if you get any slight latency issues, where your solo doesnt seem like its in the right place, go to options and untick "enable snapping" this will alow you to drag your recorded file to the point where it should be.

Dont normally get the fade in and outs with latency unless you lay one track on top of another, can still fix that also but a bit more comlicated to explain blink.gif
