In this Quick Licks, we embrace our DOUBLE PICKING and combine it with a blues lick. The result is a Shreddy sounding blues bit. Don't feel like you have to play this at speed. It's more important to be able to play it correctly. Don't "Stiff Arm" the picking if at all possible. Stay loose, focus on the lick and don't overplay. If you push to far, it will sound sloppy, which is your first clue you may be pushing to hard. Keep it within a comfy speed range. Give it a go!!
PICKING IS DEALERS CHOICE!!!!!

One of the harder ones for me. I really don't incorporate anything like this in my playing - though I may start to.
Right hand was the difficult area. I worked up from very slow to fairly quick though not up to T's tempo yet.
I made a blues progression (Eb minor) out of it.

Take one Sarge. I cheated a little bit and moved to another position, the same position that Ken went to at the 11th fret, thanks Ken wink.gif

I don't know why, but I get a sense of oriental about it, or am I completely Harpic?

Welcome to the wonderful world of "MULTI PICKING!!" It's one of my fave techniques. I stole it directly from the guitarist from the band WASP. The solo section for "I wanna be somebody". Thought it sounded cool how he multi picked while palm muted so I boosted it for my own bag of tricks! smile.gif You know what they say, good artists borrow, great artists steal!!!! smile.gif

You do a fine job of this and of course turn it in to something very cool which is way above and beyond the simple drill that it starts off as. I'm gratified that you are getting something out of these smile.gif It's great to see your playing style adapt and do things I wouldn't have thought of. SCORE!!!!
Here is the vid in question where I stole from, it's all over the place in music, this was just the first time I'd noticed it. The bit starts at 2:34 (He's doing triple picking) Looks like a capture from VHS smile.gif

Cracks me up watching old wasp videos. I"ll bet you never thought this type of stuff would work it's way in to your playing!

You just...
LEVELED UP!!!!!

NAILED IT!!!! Great Minds Think Alike!!!!!! I dig the mod you and ken put on it. Sounds very cool. You've gotten way better at Multi Picking and better at being able to keep a solid palm mute while picking briskly, without lifting. That alone is a skill worth the price of admission IMHO!
Congrats! You just...
LEVELED UP!!!! You remain the TOP DAAAAAAWWWWGG!!!

Cheers, did you miss my comment about getting a sense of oriental with this lick? I don't know why, but at lower speeds it had, to me anyway, an oriental flavour. Maybe I'm just weird laugh.gif

Everyone has different ears. It sounds bluesy to me. Harmonic Minor stuff sounds more oriental but there is that chromatic thing happening in there which may be what your hearing?

NICE!! Not only did you play the lick, you made it your own with a killer mod. Showing not only that you have the technical ability to play the lick, but you have the creativity to make it in to something else as well. You've got this one. Well played!! You just..
LEVELED UP!!
