Thought you guys may want to check this out. It's Vox's new Interface that allows you to remove guitar parts from any mp3. Also works as a modeler with alot of config's.
Check out the Youtube video to the right of the page. (Jamvox Video Demo) I'm sure some of you know about this piece of equipment, but for those that don't, should be a treat! http://www.voxamps.co.uk/jamvox/ |

Your welcome guys. Looks like US retailers are having a hard time keeping them in stock. And only $250 Looks like it would be well worth it!

It removes the guitar parts from any mp3? I'd really like to see that one working.

Looks like a promising piece of equipment!! Seems like a good rival to toneports , but I don't actually think this guitar extraction thing will work that good..He only shows one example and its not even perfect there, and it seems like an easy song to work with..I think you'll get terrible results trying to extract guitars from Metallica or RHCP records for example or any more sophisticated songs/production...

With signal processing that can be done in principle, if the signals do not have a high degree of correlation (there is research on this area, though I don't know how advanced it actually is) From the demonstration it seems that it uses the frequency you select as the base to remove a track. So I guess that it could work on RHCP regardless of complexity, but on Metallica I think it would remove both guitars... Well, a real demonstration would be to separate each track on November rain solo or every voice in Bohemian Rhapsody This post has been edited by Gus: Sep 6 2008, 10:58 AM -------------------- my "Thank you GMC!" video

If someone here buys it, could that person challenge the box for it's full potential?
Seems like a nice concept, but if it works 100% on a Metallica or Amorphis track, I'll eat my socks -------------------- GMC is not just a website... It's a lifestyle!

It has to do a lot with the track quality. If the track is not mixed properly then you might even get some vocal in your extracted guitar part. I have plugin "vocal remover" and that works very similar. It inverts phases and EQs that frequency range in the mix so the vocal is removed. You can still hear it very quiet somewhere in the distance (like in a very long reverb). The same works with guitar if it's mixed that way. If the solo doesn't interfere with any other frequency and it's louder than than the other instruments then it's not a problem to remove it even with a simple EQ. That cannot be said for a rhythm guitar. If you remove that you would also remove much of the drums and bass.

Well, a real demonstration would be to separate each track on November rain solo or every voice in Bohemian Rhapsody Well I don't know how it will work on multitrack recordings of any band which features lots of similar guitar tracks (inluding RHCP)..Also this example in the video seems very fishy to me..I think he showed in the stereo picture of the track having guitar hard right...And than isolated it by moving the stereo picture (simple panning).Track is a very basic one, blues style, having drums and bass and very loud guitar (apparently panned right only)..I mean I am not convinced at all in that video...Well see when someone gets this device, i think its a cheap marketing trick(regarding isolating guitars) other than that it may be a cool device to tackle toneports and similar stuff. guitar sound is scattered all over the spectrum so it is pretty hard to isolate the sound. It is possible, but results will not be that great. As Emir said, with a properly mixed track it is somewhat easier, but nevertheless, it will isolate other sounds as well.
