So I think I want to run my guitar into my FX pedals, then run it through a good preamp and then direct to the house mixer.
Skipping the speaker cabinet means either the preamp has to have a good "Line Out" emulating the speaker or I need to look at products designed for this need. I've come across a product that I think will work: Sansamp GT2 DI It looks like it will do exactly what I want... anyone have any experience with these? I pulled the trigger on the Sansamp GT2. I will let you know how it works out once I get it and put it through a mixer and PA system.

Mudbone is dead on. You need a speaker emulator if you want to go direct. You can get a SANSAMP stomp box that will do this without having to buy a full multi pedal. SanAmp has been making great speaker emulators for years. Get it "sans" "amp" or "without amp". Here is a link to a sansamp stomp box.

Gonna pick up the delay stuff this afternoon and the GT2 is being shipped to me. I hope it all works out! Wow... the DD5 with the optional footswitch is sick. I've never really fiddled too much with a digital delay... what a cool toy! I've already figured out a cool part for a song the band is working on that fits perfectly using heavy ethereal delay effects.

If you already have Blues Driver that you like, I would suggest you tryout the Behringer Ultra-G unit. It's a copy of a (more famous) DI unit with speaker cab emulation. It's got a very good sound, and it's around 35$! It can work as an active DI (9 volt battery), or passive (48V phantom power from the mixer). Works good both ways.

I'm hoping the GT2 works perfectly and I can move on to looking at volume pedals (which I desperately need), and maybe a compressor. I don't want or need a billion different things and I don't need to be able to obtain 1000 different sounds. All I want to do is carve out my own unique 4 or 5 sounds and perfect those. Currently the cleans I get are killer. They are the best cleans I've ever gotten and I've owned a lot of stuff. Even my Marshall TSL 100 head with 4x12 Celestion Greenback cab didn't sound nearly as nice (to me) as my current $75 garage sale amp. For most applications other than cleans I use the Blues Driver with the boost on an just enough drive to add a bit of crunch and bite to my sound. The Keeley mod makes the Blues Driver extremely responsive to attack... even piping through a solid state rig. I can get warm cleans to gritty bite just based on attack. For saturated distortion I run a Rick Franklin Super Overdrive with the BD. I'm not a huge fan of the Super Overdrive (it scoops A LOT of mids out when you kick it on) but it gets the job done... that will probably be the one pedal I replace someday. The Fender Studio 85 has ridiculous tweed cleans. I like the cleans I get out of that more than the cleans I was getting from my Fender Blues Jr NOS. In fact, the BJNOS got used so little I just sold it. My hope is that the Sansamp GT2 becomes my ultimate DI/performing solution and the Studio 85 is used just for practice (the band doesn't set up the entire PA for practice so I need to bring my amp to that). I plan on running the GT2 through the Studio 85. With the volume at lower settings (suitable for our practices) the 85 has a pretty dry sound with the EQ's set to flat and no reverb. Then, hopefully during sound check I find the GT2 is ready to go. FYI - I only recently started going to my church's band practices and they are holding try-outs in two weeks. I've received the songs I need to play arranged by the music director and the only one I am struggling with at the moment is "Silent Night" lol... it's almost TOO slow for me to get a grip on... I think I'll just pop out the Acoustic and play it Arpeggio style on that one. Thanks for all the information you guys have given me... it really helped.
