When my band mates Marshall broke I handed him my Bad Moneky and we lined it into the mixer and it sounded absolutely terrible.
I've played through a Blackstar HT pedal and that sounded descent through the mixer, I'd even concider giging with it as a second to tube amp. I never had any success with a POD X3 either, it works fine with head phones and recording but amplified I just don't think it's up to par.

I didn't think it would sound great but I thought at least it would sound somewhat acceptable smile.gif Did you plug into the OUT 2 (Mixer) or the OUT 1 (Amp) on the Bad Monkey?

Thanks for the info guys... I just LOVE the creamy crunch I get out of my Keely Blues Driver and amp... and would hate to go to a multi-effects processor to get a bunch of sounds I don't see myself using.

I'll keep doing some homework and get back to you.

You might want to consider just getting a mic and plugging that into the mixer biggrin.gif SM57s aren't that expensive.

So I think I want to run my guitar into my FX pedals, then run it through a good preamp and then direct to the house mixer.

Skipping the speaker cabinet means either the preamp has to have a good "Line Out" emulating the speaker or I need to look at products designed for this need. I've come across a product that I think will work:

Sansamp GT2 DI

It looks like it will do exactly what I want... anyone have any experience with these?

The Music Director doesn't want any live amp speakers on stage. The other three guitarists each use: 1. Pod X3 Live, 2. Pod HD, 3. Peavey Amp Direct Line Out.

I don't need an entire pod library of sounds though and i'm thinking the DI I mentioned above might work.

I pulled the trigger on the Sansamp GT2. I will let you know how it works out once I get it and put it through a mixer and PA system.

Wish me luck! hehe

Mudbone is dead on. You need a speaker emulator if you want to go direct. You can get a SANSAMP stomp box that will do this without having to buy a full multi pedal. SanAmp has been making great speaker emulators for years. Get it "sans" "amp" or "without amp". Here is a link to a sansamp stomp box.

I just bought one this morning. I also just bought a boss dd5 and boss fs-5u for $80 total. Gonna pick up the delay stuff this afternoon and the GT2 is being shipped to me. I hope it all works out! smile.gif

Wow... the DD5 with the optional footswitch is sick. I've never really fiddled too much with a digital delay... what a cool toy! I've already figured out a cool part for a song the band is working on that fits perfectly using heavy ethereal delay effects.

I hope the GT2 purchase ends up being this good smile.gif

This is what I use. I sent my Boss CS-3 compressor to the guy who does the Monte Allums modes, so it is absent at present. The Fulltone pedals run on 18V, which they handle. Yes that does make them sound even better. My pedal board is a prototype. I will build a similar with more elevation so I can mount the power supplies below and reach the Eventides easier. It will also be wider so I can put the expression pedals on it. I may add a third expression pedal, right now I use the Eventide Midii capability to control the Pitchfactor and Modfactor with one expression pedal, the Timefactor with the 2nd expression pedal. The eventide pedals each have an auxiliary 3 button switch below them, so I have 6 buttons for each to operate each in real time.

The chain is:

Guitar into Isp Decimator G String

Decimator loop out to:
Monte Allums Mod Boss CS-3
Fulltone G-500
Fulltone Fulldrive 2
Fulltone OCD
Modified Boss SD-1 (very nice mod, I use this a lot)
Boss DD-7 (I use this primarily for the 40 second looper feature, that is sufficient for how I use a looper, the Timefactor has looping as well)
Sonic Stomp (always sounds better with this on, so it is always on)
Then Back to Decimator loop in

It is best to let the Eventides run free of the Decimator, they are not noisey anyway.

So Output of Decimator to:

Eventide Pitchfactor
Eventide Modfactor
Eventide Timefactor

Then to the clean channel of Carvin Amp, two of them in stereo if I feel like it (Eventides are nice in stereo).

In answer to which Fulltone to get if you only want one, you need two, the OCD and Fulldrive 2. Although the G-500 is nice as well, you get a real stinging sound with that, but not an annoying one, not harsh. I like the all the booster to get various tones, I think I get anything I could want that way.

If you already have Blues Driver that you like, I would suggest you tryout the Behringer Ultra-G unit. It's a copy of a (more famous) DI unit with speaker cab emulation. It's got a very good sound, and it's around 35$! It can work as an active DI (9 volt battery), or passive (48V phantom power from the mixer). Works good both ways.

Great suggestion! If the Sansamp GT2 doesn't work out, I'll definitely try that. I'm hoping the GT2 works perfectly and I can move on to looking at volume pedals (which I desperately need), and maybe a compressor. I don't want or need a billion different things and I don't need to be able to obtain 1000 different sounds. All I want to do is carve out my own unique 4 or 5 sounds and perfect those.

Currently the cleans I get are killer. They are the best cleans I've ever gotten and I've owned a lot of stuff. Even my Marshall TSL 100 head with 4x12 Celestion Greenback cab didn't sound nearly as nice (to me) as my current $75 garage sale amp.

For most applications other than cleans I use the Blues Driver with the boost on an just enough drive to add a bit of crunch and bite to my sound. The Keeley mod makes the Blues Driver extremely responsive to attack... even piping through a solid state rig. I can get warm cleans to gritty bite just based on attack.

For saturated distortion I run a Rick Franklin Super Overdrive with the BD. I'm not a huge fan of the Super Overdrive (it scoops A LOT of mids out when you kick it on) but it gets the job done... that will probably be the one pedal I replace someday.

The Fender Studio 85 has ridiculous tweed cleans. I like the cleans I get out of that more than the cleans I was getting from my Fender Blues Jr NOS. In fact, the BJNOS got used so little I just sold it.

My hope is that the Sansamp GT2 becomes my ultimate DI/performing solution and the Studio 85 is used just for practice (the band doesn't set up the entire PA for practice so I need to bring my amp to that). I plan on running the GT2 through the Studio 85. With the volume at lower settings (suitable for our practices) the 85 has a pretty dry sound with the EQ's set to flat and no reverb. Then, hopefully during sound check I find the GT2 is ready to go.

FYI - I only recently started going to my church's band practices and they are holding try-outs in two weeks. I've received the songs I need to play arranged by the music director and the only one I am struggling with at the moment is "Silent Night" lol... it's almost TOO slow for me to get a grip on... I think I'll just pop out the Acoustic and play it Arpeggio style on that one.

Thanks for all the information you guys have given me... it really helped. I'll probably start a new thread in a couple weeks regarding volume pedals smile.gif

Thanks, it's gonna be delivered tomorrow. I'll let you all know how it goes. smile.gif

Also, I am picking up a Keeley DS-1 this Thursday... I'm hoping it will replace my Rick Franklin SD-1 I greatly dislike. I don't get that pedal... every review raves about how great it is but I think it scoops WAY too much mid-range. You get thick sustain but it feels like the meat is taken out of my signal when I kick it on.
