I hear the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headset is quite good, should be around your price range as well. Check it out.

I'm on my second pair of Sony's in ten years. MDR-V900HD, I got them for $160 USD off evilBay. Looks like Amazon's right in that range too. Can even be used with low-power devices like my iPod and it still kicks much butt.

Interesting topic.
I would like to know if there are any headphones that are good for home music production/mixing and somewhat mastering? Basically to replace having regular audio monitor speakers and still get decent results. Is there something like that out there? p.s. I have been using sennheiser hd 465 over the years for some recording/band rehearsals and these sound pretty good. I'm using AKG K141Studio, and they are great. They don't color the sound at all, which is not only good for mixing and mastering, but also for games and movies. Very precise headphones. I would recommend this, I think it's even cheaper then your budget, and it's probably one of the safest options out there

I was using AKG IP2 headphones,but one channel stopped working, probably contacts ! Yeah,worth every penny

Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro - check the ohm as there were several different versions - is about the only one really good enough for mixing at a level where you could use them instead of 2 way monitors Bogdan. Sadly though I think they discontinued the good version a few years ago and so now you're probably stuck with a single 250 ohm one. Mastering - headphones give a false impression of the spectral range and do not reproduce the stereo soundstage. I really would recomend that you do NOT use headphones to 'master'. -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer.
