Hi all

Does GMC 'ers list to classic music at all?

If yes what is your favorite composer or music piece?

I got chills on my spine from:

"Adagio for Strings" from Samuel Barber in remembrance of 9.11

It was also used in PLantoon the movie:

Here a version only with voices:

Hi Sensible Jones,

That is also a great (Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata mvt. 1) melody.

For me it tends to be more Messiaen and later 20thC. Barber's Knoxville Summer of 1915 is nice though - particularly the Dawn Upshaw version.

Those two pieces are great, they are both so beautiful. And thanks for posting that first one playaxeman cos I've known that piece for a while but never known it's name.

Of classical music one of my favourite pieces is from the romantic period, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, the first movement.

I also like Mozart's "Alla Turca".

Of contemporary music, I just can't get enough of Steve Reich's "City Life". Especially the first movement. It's just so brilliant.

Oooh, this thread slipped past me.
Yep, I was brought up on classical music and I can't stress the importance of appreciating classical enough. Anyhow, as to favourite composers, my number one is and forever shall be Sergei Rachmaninoff. His music makes me very proud to be half Russian smile.gif

Apart from Rach, I also am a big fan of Debussy, Ravel, Shostakovich, Chopin, Scriabin, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Liszt (you can probably guess from that list I'm a pianist haha tongue.gif ) Also, Elgar, Schoenberg, Albeniz, Khachaturian, Dvorak.. ah I could go on and on..

Well, here's some more for you to enjoy:
