... or just "Jopi" to his friends, is a funk/rock/fusion guitarist from Madrid, Spain.
His third album, "Conversation", was recently released. You can find it there at Guitar9.com, or at AbstractLogix.com, along with his previous solo albums, "Music Guitar Box" and "Un Poco De Lo Mio". He recently became a Suhr Guitars artist, and he plays them on his newest album, which you can listen to samples of here. In fact, here's a full song for you to download called "For you / Por tí", from his new album, and here's a video clip of the same song. Also, here's another full song called "Tornado", from his first album, and once again here is a clip of the same song. I got "Conversación" about a month ago, and I'm absolutely loving it. It reminds me a lot of Shawn Lane's music... not in style or technique (although Casto is certainly no slacker), but in the way that a lot of the songs sound really joyful. I’ve always preferred happier sounding music to dark and angry, as long as the former packs the same level of intensity that’s more common with the angrier sounding genres (such as metal). To me, a song like Shawn Lane's “Rules of the Game” is easily as intense as any hard driving progressive metal song I’ve ever heard. To be honest, I’ve never immediately “clicked” with any of Jopi's albums, but that’s almost always been the case with the music I now enjoy the most. I remember buying and listening to his first two albums a couple of years ago, and just not totally enjoying them at first. But then I got sick one weekend shortly after getting them, and all I did while I was sick was lay in bed and listen to those CD's. I reasoned that there was obviously something going on with this music, because the artist wouldn’t have spent his life playing and creating it if it didn’t really move him inside. So I decided I wouldn’t stop listening to them until I could enjoy the music like he must. Well, I’m happy to report that it only took twenty hours or so, but man, once I got it, I really got it! Castro quickly became one of my favorite guitarists, and his newest album is probably my favorite he has released yet. Hopefully it wont take you twenty hours to enjoy! I actually started digging the new album very quickly, and it’s currently dominating my playlist. So once more, here are the download links for two songs: "For you / Por tí" and "Tornado". http://www.josedecastro.net/ http://www.guitar9.com/summjosedecastro.html http://www.musicguitarbox.com/foro/ |
