Hey guys!
Check this out me and my drummer decided to work something smooth for you guys, so we started out like this:
After that, I recorded the bass and the guitars and voila! The track for the new collab is done! We would be very honored to jam with you, so go ahead and send your takes!
In order to make this work out as a super funky smooth jam, I need the following things from you guys:
1) Video files (. AVI format)
2) Audio files - one without the backing and one with the backing (. WAV format)
3) I would suggest using clean or just a little bit crunched tones for the solos...in order to make it smooth, right?
4) This collab is aiming to develop your phrasing and expression skills so throw in bends, vibrato and little melodies as often as you can!
5) The deadline is October, the 31'st!
The progression is:
Dm7 Em7 Dm7 Em7 Dm7 Em7 FM7 Em7
G7sus4 Dm7/9 Bmadd9 Am7
Dm7 Em7 Dm7 Em7 Dm7 Em7 FM7 Em7 x 2
You are free to use the A minor scale and the A minor pentatonic scale, as well as playing around with the idea of highlighting notes belonging to the Dorian (over Dm7), Phrygian (over Em7), Mixolydian (over G7sus4), Lydian (over FM7) and even Locrian (over Badd9) modes.
Another suggestion would be to play Dorian mode notes over the whole progression starting from Dm7 as it highlights this particular mode very well! I'll throw in ideas as we go along so that we may have as many weapons at our disposal as possible
The tempo is 92 or 93 BPM, I think and the tuning is standard!
Let's see how smooth you guys can get!
Cosmin

Already getting some ideas.
Hey everyone! You can download this little GP file with some lick suggestions for the Smooth Collab! Give them a try and develop them in any direction you wish - they have been discussed a couple of v-chat sessions ago, so the guys who attended are a bit familiar with them I think
Please do ask anything which may seem uncertain!
Cosmin

*Cosmin, I have uploaded all 3 files to Rapidshare...just guide me if i need to "send" them to you or anything....
Hey Jordan! Cool take mate I see you're enjoying the groove! Hehehehe
I'm just not experienced in this style of music. I can only think of a few phrases. I'm actually just out of ideas. These phrases are just not making sense musically. It's like the following sentence:
"I'm going he is to the thing bedroom closet store." It doesn't make sense.
Wow, I barely made it under the wire for this one. With all the AP mayhem I've been doing lately and then the road trip to get the new dog (see my "putting the guitar on ebay" thread.), at least I was able to put a take together for this collab. Very inspirational, smooth backing track. And once I found all the notes for D-Dorian, it came together pretty well. Not too much fancy playing here, but hopefully you'll find it "smooth"...
it's done and uploaded to my rapidshare account...now I just need you RS- or emailadress to send it to you Cosmin!
Cosmin, did u get my flies?

Hi guys, here is my take, i would like to be Guthrie Govan but we are learning, isn't it?
Sent email with rapishare link to files.
Hi Cosmin,
just sent you my takes via RS!
Christian
Sorry for not participating in this man, although I said I would. I am so busy these days (exams, some IT projects, lots' of stuff), and I tried to come up with something various times, jammed with the BT but everything I made was pretty much unsatisfying and I wasn't pleased with my improvisations. I am weak in this style
Looking forward to see the result of this collab because I heard some really sweet takes. And also I hope to participate in a future collab, when I have more time and when it suits me better...
Hey guys! I shall have the final video ready until Monday. In the mean time, here are my audio takes
Hey there guys! Here's the final mix of the Smooth Collab!
I hope you will all enjoy it and of course I also want to thank you for giving this a nice shot!
This sort of music is based on grooving and catchy phrases, which I heard here and there in everyone's takes, so, thank you:
TesttubeMammoth - good introduction theme (I chose you first ) ,
gitarrero - the idea with that tremolo is nice too
rhoads - your theme was nice as well, so I thought I would give you some space to develop it.
JamesT - nice theme starting from 1.54 and the fusion approach was good!
JaxN4 - always a pleasure to have you onboard mate! At 2.27 you could've gone a little wider with that vibrato - Andy Timmons style
Markblack - love that jazzy tone man!
ZX6 - you had a nice percussive approach to your theme!
Guys! I would like you to try adding more rhythm and direction to your themes in general! I think your themes start good and the note choices are very nice but they leave me wanting more - you should try and conclude them in a strong way so that they may resolve themselves. Try being more and more conscious of the idea of landing on a strong note once you feel your phrases should come to an end or on an unexpected one when you are trying to create a little bit of tension !
Looking forward to your takes on this one (still 3 days left so jam those axes guys! )

I turned out pretty cool !
Thanks a lot Cosmin !
Thanks for the feedback Cosmin.....I would like to think that Andy Timmons is sneaking into my playing, but he is amazing....
Until next time,
CHEERS
