GMC Forum _ Gabriel Leopardi _ Lukasz Drazek's Thread

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jan 31 2013, 02:23 AM

Hi Lukasz!! Welcome to your Gab's Army thread!!

Could you please tell me a bit about you, your musical tastes, influences, strengths and weaknesses? I would need some videos of you playing rhythm and solo guitar, so please post your best material here. If you have some music or ideas of your own, also post them here. Also let me know how you think that I can help you and what are your expectations for our job. You can check the other Army's thread to discover the different modalities of this project.

The principles of our Army are:

+ Improve your technique
+ Make music and solos
+ Have fun
+ Destroy the enemy (hahaha not really just kidding... )

Cool! Let's start with this lesson, please learn it and shoot a video in a few days to let me see your current level.

Its my playing, i have very cheap guitar so sometimes its out of tune specially some frets on high e string ;d Maybe sometimes is my fault xD

Hi mate! Nice take! We have now 2 things to concentrate on. First, your right hand movement when you play alternate picking technique. I can notice that you are moving your fingers while the correct way to do it is moving your hand from your wrist. Please read the explanations in this thread: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=42828
Also check the right hand of the instructor in this lesson and you will notice it: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginners-Corner-25-Alternate-Picking/
We should go for an alternate picking lesson, could you please search for one at your level http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/search/alternate%20picking/n/1/5/n/n/n/t/f/

The second thing to improve is your vibrato technique. It's not consistent and one of the reasons why is that you are not using the other fingers to help the finger that is pushing the string. Please pay attention to how Piortr makes the vibrato at 00:07: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/guitar_loves_piano/

Review these things and keep on practising this one.

Is it good right hand movement?

My 1st take of Guitar Loves Piano #2

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Feb 11 2013, 03:55 AM

Nice take mate! IT sounds cool! I think that you still have to concentrate on feeling... dynamics and vibrato. Try to make vibrato even more consistent and regular, sometimes is a bit too electrical. Also be sure to do it from your wrist, not with the finger.

Check the first part of this video where Joe shows how to add vibrato properly to bends... check how he moves his left hand...

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Feb 20 2013, 05:13 AM

Hi Lukasz! Thanks for the videos! Your feeling is better now! I can notice that your vibrato starts to be much more natural than in your previous version! This means that you are doing a great job, keep on working on it. There are some details starting at 00:45 in the Guitar loves Piano lesson 1 but it's just some random wrong notes. The part 2 is also very good, and the most important thing to work are the bends because there are many that don't reach the correct pitch.

Keep on the good job! smile.gif

Hi Lukasz! Thanks for your take and congrats for your work! You are on the right path with these two lessons! Your timing and overall feeling are very enjoyable. I think that you only have to review your bending technique because there are some bends that don't reach the correct pitch in both takes, for example at 00:55 in the first one and at 01:26 in the second one. Your bending is better than in the past but it still needs more work. Do you notice the problem?

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Mar 13 2013, 12:40 PM

I think i understand that, but u will see that on next takes, what lessons can you recommend to practice bending?

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Mar 13 2013, 02:33 PM

Great! These two lessons are very useful for practising bending:

Keep on working on this lesson to feel more comfortable with it, and now concentrating a bit more on your vibrato technique. But let me say congratulations! smile.gif

Excellent job mate! You keep on improving this lesson! We are ready to start working on new lessons. How is the "Picking hand basics" lesson going?

You can start working on this lesson: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Guitar-loves-piano-3/

but we also need to work on legato and alternate picking. Let's start with this lesson:

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Land-Of-Legato/

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Mar 23 2013, 03:22 PM

I have a suggestion. I make .doc file with list of lesson what u give me on my notebook. And maybe u will vote on this lessons takes (1-10) like in REC program. And i write this on my list, and i will know on what lessons i need to focus more and how much left to achieve perfect take.

Nr lesson. (difficulty)Lesson Name /DateOfLastTake/ ---- score

1.(2)Beginner's Corner 25: Alternate Picking /04.02.2013/ ---- 0
2.(2)Picking Hand Basics /05.02.2013/ ---- 0
3.(2)Guitar Loves Piano #2 /12.03.2013/ ---- 0

6.(3)String Bending /NoTakeYet/ ---- 0
7.(3)Guitar Loves Piano #3 /NoTakeYet/ ---- 0
8.(2)Bens Land Of Legato /NoTakeYet/ ---- 0

And every day when i wake up i will look on my list and practise. When i post new take i will copy line with my lists. You will vote, and i will change score on my list. What do you think about it? If you are ok with it please score my last takes of each lesson what i post ealier, it will be help me a lot.

Hi mate! Good job with these takes. The main problem in both is the pitch of your bending. I think that you still have to work hard on the exercise by Joe Satriani that I shared earlier until you are sure that you are reaching the correct pitches. The guitar loves piano lesson sounds very good and I think that the only important issue is that some bends. Keep on the hard work!

Hi mate! Good job with this lesson! I can see an improvement since your previous take! You still have to work on timing to make it sound tighter and also on pick intensity to make the notes sound more equal. Also pay attention to the section where you have to reach the higher note, this has improved but can be smoother. Keep on the great job!

Hi mate! Good job with this new lesson. The things to work on this one are timing on each position, position changes and also some noises that appear close to the end, in the higher positions. Concentrate on this two things and you will master this one. wink.gif I'm using here the same criteria that I use at REC to grade so don't feel bad is the number is not high, the idea is to have enough headroom from your current playing

It sounds better but there are still pitch issues at 00:09, 00:11, 00:14, 00:22, and then the issues are much smaller but some bends aren't perfect. You are getting closer by the way... keep on working!

Guitar Loves Piano #3 /14.06.2013/ ---- 5

Hi Lukasz! Good job with this lesson, you already know the sections not it's time to adjust it. I think that you have to work on timing, vibrato, bending and dynamics to give your take more feeling. There are pitch issues when you go to the higher frets, starting at 00:39. I think that your guitar needs some calibration, or maybe the first 2 strings weren't well tuned. In this section appears pitch issues in your bending, but I'm not sure if this is because of the guitar issue.

Work on these things for some days an post a new take. wink.gif

Hi mate! Your take is better. You look more comfortable with the different parts and your bending technique is a bit more precise. However, the pitch issues in your guitar is ruining the second half of the take. That's the reason why this take wouldn't pass. did you send your guitar to a professional?

Tell me that will be pass in rec zone? or should i work on it more?

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Oct 8 2013, 04:42 PM

Hi mate. Before I ask your question, I would like to clarify that the main purpose of REC is receiving constant feedback from all the instructors at the site. "Passing" is a result of practice time and receiving constant feedback from different professionals can make you use your time wisely.

now talking about your take. It's going well but most of the bends aren't reaching the correct pitch. They are close but there are not there. An important question that I would like to make is: "Do you note it? Can you hear it?"

If you can't here this, you have to o some ear training. If you can hear it, you just have to continue practising bending to be more precise.

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Oct 8 2013, 04:46 PM

What should i do to train my ear?

QUOTE (Lukasz Drazek @ Oct 8 2013, 12:46 PM) *
What should i do to train my ear?

Here you have some ideas:

1- Playing / Singing scales: Playing a scale and singing it at the same time will help you to connect your mind with your guitar and this will also train your ear. Experiment with variations of this, like playing the scale once and then singing it without playing.

2- Play a melody and then sing it // Sing a melody and then play it: This will be possible after some work on exercise 1.

3- Learning songs by ear. This will make you practice the connection between your mind, ears and guitar. Start with simple melodies and then with full songs. You can use GMC lessons, because you can then check the guitar pro or tabs to see if you did a good job.

4- Use ear training software to exercise interval, scales and chord recognizance. There are many free software in the web, just use google and you will find them. Example: http://www.good-ear.com/

5- Practice Luciana's singing lessons at GMC: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-lessons/phrygian-mode-singing-lesson/

Hi mate, you are on the right track with this lesson. You still have to practice it at this tempo to make your picking sound even more consistent. Also, having a guitar routine that includes this lessons and technique exercises will help you with this lesson. Let's start designing it.

What about something like this:

-Technique Job (30 minutes)

Alternate Picking

Legato

-Lesson Practice (30 minutes)

HOUR 2:

-Technique Job (30 minutes)

Vibrato + Bending

Rhythm

My first take of Iron Maiden For Beginners:

And same with The Hives Style:

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Dec 18 2013, 04:14 AM

Hi mate! Nice videos! Let's go with some comments:

Iron Maiden for Beginners: (grade: 7)
This one is sounding good mate. The first melody's timing could be better, try to play it tighter. There is a problem in the connection between the lead guitar and the verse's rhythm. The bridge starting at 00:38 that also appears in the end should sound cleaner, there are some extra noises there. Try to experiment a bit more with the palm muting the make it sound better.

The Hives: (grade 6)
You have been very fast with this one! I think that you still have to play it to get used to the chord changes and be able to play it tighter. Concentrate on timing and following the drums. This is the most important thing to fix.

I think that we could add HOUR 4 with some extra techniques like tapping, hybrid picking, combining techniques and also expand hour 3 which is very important (composing). I would like to see you posting here new ideas / compositions diary that we could work together.

What are you doing during hour 3 nowadays?

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Dec 23 2013, 01:06 PM

Im learning teory from link what you share, and try doing my improvisation for less is more smile.gif But i want more time destine on technique, mine main goal will be master technique next year, and be able play your 10 difficult lesson (dream yet) biggrin.gif But maybe you are right smile.gif
And is possible get Guitar Pro file on Blues Licks? its hard for me get timing in full speed.

The Hives next take:

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Dec 24 2013, 01:36 AM

Hi mate, nice take on the hives lesson. There are two things to pay attention on this one. The first one is timing. You are playing a a bit before the beat during the first triads riff. Then, the second thing is to make the chord changes smoother to make the silence between chords shorter. The rest is ok. Keep on working on it since it's something that once you master, it will help you with many of my lessons.

Regarding the blues licks lesson, I don't have the guitar pro, but I can write it in the next days, or we can schedule some minutes at the chat room so I can help you with the rhythm once you learn the notes. What do you think?

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Dec 24 2013, 02:07 AM

Thanks for feedback, i think i know what this timing issues are now, you will could check it on next take. And with Blues Licks, for me will be better Guitar Pro files becouse i can slow down the tempo and play with it, but i know its Christmas time, so it can be in one of your chat sessions.

I was't talking about my Vchat session, I was talking about scheduling a moment specially for you, but we can go for the guitar pro. I will transcribe it in the next days. While I do it, you can work on other lessons.

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Dec 29 2013, 05:26 PM

After i post Iron Maiden For Beginners at REC, i saw that i have tendence to rush so fast and normal tempo. I have idea. I will post slow tempo and u will tell me. If its ok, i go bump up as much as u tell me. If i should play as same tempo will do it, if i need to slow down will do it also. How you think about it? I Will dont bump up alone for sure, maybe this is a point where i fail.

Hey mate! I checked this take, and yes, you have timing issues. You are playing a bit after the beat most of the time. I recommend you to set a metronome in 160 bpm and use it as 8th notes count. You should play at the same speed but it will help you to play tighter. Once you get used to it, you should feel inside those 8th notes even when you set the metronome normally... does it make sense?

Hi mate! Good job! Your playing becomes tighter with 8th notes count! The neoclassical still has timing issue, but it's better, the other lesson is sounds very tight. I think that you should keep on practicing like this for some more time. Then we will get back to 4th notes count, but there is no hurry. Keep on working hard!

It still has some little parts where notes sound bad but I think that it's time to increase a bit the speed. It's good to always keep moving the tempo 10 bpm around your target zone.

Hi Lukasz! Great job on both audios! I can notice that you are getting very close with them. Your timing is much better on both lessons! It seems that the double tempo practice is giving very notable results!! There is nothing to fix on here, just continue practice, concentrating on timing. Well done!! smile.gif

Hey smile.gif
Can you tell me what your lessons are good to practice before start practicing 40 Power Metal Bands lessons? I think im not ready yet for that difficulty. Any recommendations?

Or i shouldnt be affraid of difficulty and start learning this lesson (40 Power Metal Bands)? What do you think?

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jan 7 2014, 04:00 PM

The most difficult section is the part where I cover Dragonforce's style. There I play very fast Alternate Picking licks and Sweep Picking. However there are many parts that can give trouble so you have to start slowly and be patient.
There are many lessons that can help you to master this one. Let me share here a list.

and off course my Power Metal series:

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Jan 8 2014, 06:51 PM

Thanks for this list. I'm ready to practice!!! My routine will look like this now:
1,5h malmsteen lesson ( i divided this lesson on 3 parts - 30 min each part practice) - Having problem with playing triplets with metronome, yet
1,0h rythm lesson (German Power Metal Series)
0.5h jamming, theory

And i spied on other thread. And i think i can expand mine music albums knowledge.(i dont listen music so much). It's hard to admit, but i dont listen full albums, i just listen single songs smile.gif And its time to change it.
I think i cant yet analyze it (weak teory), but i can listen it and find some chords on mine own (kinda ear training or sth like that) with that album
Can you give me one album per week?

And have question for collab, on improvising i can use this scale notes right?

In general, but i will first go triple tempo per click (one note per click) 180 bpm and then go on 3 notes per beat at 60 BPM its should work fine. Like we did ealier.

Classics! smile.gif Ok, I assume that you've already listened to the fundamental albums from that great bands that you added in your list (if not please tell me). The album for this week is "Superunknown" by Soundgarden.

In this one you will notice that they took 70's hard rock by bands like Led Zeppelin and make it sound alternative. I think that they have really rich melodies but the most amazing thing is the way they work riffs and meters.

I can do this with my camera some week(on chat-room would have problem with backing and guitar played in same time got some delay in hearing myself). So i will do (30 min warm up) and push Rec button on my camera(one take no cheating), like on real concert live and will send you my concert version on your pm some day maybe.

Hi mate! This sounds very good for me! Keeping motivation is the rule number 1 of this job together so please always tell me when you are not motivated with your current guitar plan.

I was thinking that maybe we could focus on one or two longer lessons, more musical, more based on phrasing. Here I have some suggestions:

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Melodic-Yoppe/
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Melodic-Phrasing/
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Blues-Dynamics/
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Soloing-Over-A-Fusion-Ballad/

Your routine would still keep warming up but then you would work on some of these lessons.

Also I was thinking that you could start working on your own compositions.

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Apr 6 2014, 02:31 PM

Hey Gab smile.gif

I was not writing so much last time, but it doesnt mean that i dont practice in some period of time i can show you something ;d I have now request for you. I wanna start one project.

"40 Power Metal Bands"
Goal: 31.12.2014 - REC zone that lesson

And i have 3 hours per day to practice. Can you do new practice routine from 0, that can make me reach that goal? Of course if u have enough time smile.gif And i want 1 hour dedicates to my imporvisations, so u can give me some backgroud, and i will share my guitar ideas to this background in this thread

You can include everything in this routine except that what i pass in Rec zone for skill excercises

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Apr 6 2014, 05:49 PM

Hi Lukasz! Nice to hear from you! That goal sounds killer and I would ready like to help you to achieve it. We can work on the tricky parts first and I can assign extra exercises or lessons that will help you to master them.

The first thing that I will ask you is to identify the trickier parts for you and write them here. (you can use the name of the bands).

Regarding improvisation, what do you think you are lacking? what concepts do you think you already know?

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Apr 6 2014, 05:59 PM

In improvistations i know minor scale boxes and can play it in different keys, and i want practice how to use that scales.
About 40 Power Metal Bands. I was thinking about routine like this: 1,5h routine 0,5h - 40 Power Metal Bands, 1h improvisations to some backing track. Still all parts are tricky for me becouse of speed. But i want beak the ice.

Ok! Let's start with the first 3 bands. But then we can re organize the practice, because there are parts extremely difficult while there are others easier.

Would you like to share some improvisations here? To have a first idea of the things that we should improve? It would be great if you can add a comment about each take you share here with your honest thoughts. Analyze yourself.

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Apr 6 2014, 06:16 PM

I have only one recorded, and u saw this, we work together on this one. I think basic things we should improve, becouse not always, my improvisation is clever, not always sounds good, usually is the boring one what i make... i need to sit and practice on making new solos, and see in period of time how i improve this.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Apr 6 2014, 08:01 PM

yes, I can note that you are hitting nice notes over the backing but it's true that the solo is lacking some direction and stronger points. I would like to list here a series of things that you should work every day, to slowly improve your improvisations and solo compositions.

+ Learn the Pentatonic Scale (with the blue note) in all positions. It's the basic scale for rock, blues, pop and many other styles so it's a must to learn to play it and how to use it.
+ Learn the Major scale. You should be able to play it in 5 positions, and combine them on each string. Play the scale over a the root chord to hear how each note sounds over it and also try to sing the notes while you play them to incorporate the sound.
+ Patterns: Play both Pentatonic and Major scales using different patterns (in 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths).
+ Play Random notes over backing tracks to hear how each note sounds over the backing. Experiment with different combinations.
+ Learn and experiment with Triads & Arpeggios. Both can help you to avoid playing the same combination of notes that we are used to play when we learn scale shapes and practice them up and down all the time. The arpeggios can include extensions like 6th, 9th, 11th so your soloing can become very rich.
+ Learn new licks every day. It's like learning show phrases of a language. It helps to start a conversation, to start a solo. Learn them, and create your own variations, but always be ready to shot one of them during a solo.
+ Modes: A new world can be open if you expand your knowledge and learn modes and how to use them.
+ Learn and analyze your favorite solos. Learn the licks, the theory behind it, and the structure used.
+ Combine everything over backing tracks.

This list is very wide and can take a whole life to master everything, but if you work on one of these things every day or if we create a routine that covers some of these topics, be sure that you'll be going on the right track.

This is the best thing that you can do. You can create a weekly schedule to cover different items from that list. But be sure to go slowly and enjoy the process. It's not something that you will learn in 1 month. Please write down your weekly plan here so I can give you feedback and help with it.

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Apr 7 2014, 03:13 PM

My schedule for this week:

0,5 h Stratovarius
0,5 h Helloween
0,5 h Gamma Ray
0,5 h Im playing "German Power Metal I :Halloween", and "The Voice of Your Guitar"

1h learn Pentatonic Scale + playing with backing track

And i noticed that when i can play each part in same tempo i have problem with connecting it, even if i can play them in that tempo separately

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Apr 7 2014, 04:33 PM

The plan looks great! and yes, that's the following thing to work. Once you can play the parts isolated, you have to learn to connect them. It's part of the practice. This also happens with normal lessons but in this case, the connection is more difficult.

Now i alomst can play first 5 parts of 40 Power Metal Band in 115 tempo, but i cant record it becouse i havent seen option to download that version, (only full speed) sad.gif

Excellent! This medley will definitely take your playing to a new level. There are some licks that are more difficult than others. As I said before, you should isolate this ideas to give them extra attention and practice. Also creating variations as exercises is a good idea. For example the first pattern from 00:02 to 00:07, the one between 00:21 and 00:24, etc. Also, be sure to use palm muting at 00:33 to get that Helloween style sound. Before you move to a faster tempo, try to improve a bit the timing of this one.

Keep on the hard work!

Ok thanks for feedback. One more question about that lesson i should focus on that parts to make them full speed or learn all parts on 115 bpm. What is better road to learn?

Learning all parts at 115 can make you discover which are the parts that will give you more problems and then, when you increase the tempo you will naturally have to work on them. If you just work the trickier parts and not the whole song, you can get bored soon so I suggest going for the whole thing played at 115 bpm.

Hi!
From few moths my goals, change about 180 degrees. I learn from this time kinda more teoretic things, more musician.
I know:
- all pentatonic shapes and conections between them
- modes ( the shapes)
and now trying learn arpeggios, can you show me how i can use arpeggios, i know shapes. My question is how practice them over the chords. How you learnt use arpeggios? Any tips and advices are appreciated.

Luke

PS. And can u make guitar routine for me this week? I wanna focus on difference techniques 1.5h and (0.5hor more) if have more time for creative workout
And u can give me one challenging lesson per month. What u think about it

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Aug 26 2014, 05:48 PM

Hi Lukasz, how are you?

Nice to see you back here! smile.gif

A lot of great stuff happening here. Let's start with Arpeggios.

Arpeggios are an awesome way to learn to improvise and solo over chord progressions applying a concept known like "following the chords". This helps you to create more solid phrases that are totally related with the chords, that fits so nicely and that can make you hear the chord progression even playing them without a backing track. The best way to work on them is practicing over different chord progressions. You can start with progressions that include only major chords, then just minor, them combine both. Once you are comfortable with them, you can start working on Maj7th, Min7th, Maj7th 9th, Min 7th 9th, Dominant and min7 b5. This is not an easy task, it can take many weeks/months to master, but once you can play it, you will be able to play over every progression, in styles like rock, blues, pop, jazz, fusion, etc.

Off course that this arpeggios are combined with the use of Pentatonic scales, Modes, and Passing notes. Finally there is a cool concept called Polychord that is based on combining different arpeggios in one to get more unusual guitar lines.

The first exercise could be:

- Learn Major Arpeggios.
- Practicing them over this progression: G - D - C - D (you can download my backing using this chords clicking http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=38469)
- Combine Major arpeggios of each chord with G major and G major pentatonic scales.

Now regarding your guitar routine. The creative / theory section can be the one described above.

Technique Workout could cover:

Hey,

I was not active on forum last months, but i still trying become better guitarist, musician. After some research I have some propositions how to work together in this thread. What can help me with systematize my excercising. I want touch some aspects.

1. Ear training
2. Technical playing
3. Improvisation

On each point you can make assigments for me. For example monthly assigments (try play this lesson at xxx bpm) . In Sunday i will sumarise the week. What i achieve, what i dont achieve. I thinking about separate each topic with few assigments.

Ear training:
You can give me song, and i try find chord progression or something like that. Later when i can easy find chords, we can move on a little deeper.

Technical:
alternative picking
feeling (vibrato/bending/dynamics)
legato/sweep picking
rythm

Improvisation:
I will do your improvisation course from first lesson. Step by step, lesson by lesson. And tyring improvising to backing track in each lesson what i got in technical topic.

I think we should start with lessons diffuculty 3-4, and slowly move on with difficulty without racing. In our thread i got many lessons, what i dont learn them. So when you think that this lesson is really effective, you can post this again.

There is a link to my rec zone:

I want practise this way from 06 April 2015 what do you think about this? Maybe you have any suggestions?

Lukasz

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Mar 29 2015, 06:29 PM

Hi Lukasz, great post.

I think that your plan and goals are very well chosen. The three topics that you want to cover are fundamental, wide and also totally connected each with each other.

1. Ear training

There are many ways to train our ears. We can use software designed for this to use our ear and mind to discover the different intervals but I think that it's better for us to do things that include guitar for this training. Learning songs, riffs, solos, singing a melody and then play it on guitar, playing scales and singing the notes while you play them are some of the most effective things you can practice.

I think that learning songs is a good idea, and that we could get even more of this workout if you also analyse structure and theory behind the songs that you learn to incorporate some composition concepts at the same time.

There are some suggestions to start:

https://youtu.be/NRtvqT_wMeY
https://youtu.be/vabnZ9-ex7o

2. Technical playing

Do you like this lesson for this first week? It has an interesting rock phrasing that combines vibrato, bending, alternate picking, and the use of dorian mode with minor pentatonic:

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/slow_rock_solo/

3. Improvisation

Let's go for the Improvisation course. Work on the exercises and share here your recordings. I also recommend you to try the tasks over other backings tracks that you can use from GMC lessons.

GUITAR BUSHIDO: BEGINNER - Task 1

Im thinking about going from Intermediate/Warrior, and do Beginner Tasks as a bonus one. What do you think?

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jul 8 2015, 07:26 PM

Hi mate, it's a good idea if you feel that the lessons are more at your current level. About this take, I think that it clearly passes but you have to be careful with two things:

- timing
- right hand movement: It should start from your wrist. Try to avoid fingers movements.

That's all! You can start with the next task. Please let me know which one you decide to work.

A little summary of week:
I can play Metal Paterns 1 - 180 bpm, in this week i still will practice this. To try make it original tempo. (220 bpm)

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jul 18 2015, 08:11 PM

Hi Lukasz, thanks for the update. It's ok to take your time for speed. There is no hurry to play this faster if you are practicing diary and if you are focusing on making everything sound tight and clear.

Keep on working hard!

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Oct 11 2015, 09:00 PM

Hey, there is some update from me biggrin.gif i still practise Metal Patterns i can play in a little faster almost (210 bpm). I will continue practicing this one for another week.

And i want make new practice routine.

Saturday - Routine 1, 10-30 minutes (Bushido Task)
Sunday - GuitarGym, 10-30 minutes (Bushido Task)
Monday - Listening (30 minutes), 10-30 minutes (Bushido Task)
Tuesday - Routine 1, 10-30 minutes (Bushido Task)
Wednesday - GuitarGym, 10-30 minutes (Bushido Task)
Thursday - Routine 2, 10-30 minutes (Bushido Task)
Friday - Music Therory (30 minutes), 10-30 minutes (Bushido Task)

Routine 1:
Chords and Chord Progressions – 20 Minutes:
1. Learn the inversions for any chord type, i.e. m7
2.Practice a new chord progression in multiple keys, i.e. I-vi-IV-V
3.Work on playing the chords, in a few positions, for a song you’re learning

Scales and Arpeggios – 10 Minutes:
1.Learn a new scale in 12 keys on the fretboard
2.Practice playing a mode and its related arpeggios in all keys
3.Run a practice pattern through a new scale you’re learning
4.Play one, two, and three-octave arpeggios shapes for a chord type, i.e. maj7

Routine 2:
Ear Training - 20 minutes:
1.Pick out the chords to a song by ear
2.Learn a riff from a recording
3.Transcribe a solo by ear from your favorite player
4.Sing intervals, scales, arpeggios, or other musical devices
5.Ear Training Workout

Learning Songs - 10 minutes

What do you think about it? Should i change something? for example make guitar gym excercise everyday? what is your opinnion? I can change this becouse i want make my practise more effective.

Cheers,
Lukasz

Hi mate! Nice to hear from you. Welcome back!

What are your thoughts about goals and your current playing?

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Jan 1 2017, 05:00 PM

I have some break from guitar, so need some time to make my technique in good shape. I can spend something like 1h on guitar practicing. I dont have a band, i am just playing for yourself at home.

Goals:
- keep motivated,
- improve technique,
- using learned licks in own improvisations,
- get some fun with playing guitar.

I know that this goals can be too generic but its hard for me choose and set more detailed goals.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jan 1 2017, 06:38 PM

Hi Lukasz, these are nice goals.

We need to find the way to be able to keep motivation, while learning and having fun at the same time. This works different for anybody so we need to find your way to do it.

I think that defining some kind of realistic goal can be a good idea.

This is a first brainstorm based on what you say:

Lukasz 2017 Guitar Plan:

+ STEP 1 (4 months)

- Polishing technique. Adjusting your technique at your current level in order to be able to play stuff at your level wish mastery.

+ STEP 2 (6 months)

- Public practice. Start a social network channel where you do diary uploads of your guitar practice and improvisations. You can work on 1 concept each week. For example: Week 1: Pentatonic Scale, Week 2: Bending, Week 3: Blues Soloing, and so. The fact that you'll be sharing your practice would keep you motivated and at the same time, you'll start building your followers base.

If you are not comfortable with a social network (Insta, Youtube) you can use GMC Forum.

+ STEP 3 (2 months)

- Composition. What about planning composing some tracks of your own? There is a whole world here regarding music production, recording midi backings, and also regarding composition techniques. These months would be to start getting into this, and maybe the next year you can plan a first EP?

Well, these are first thoughts. I know that this can be a bit pretentious, but the only objective of this would be to keep motivated, learning and having fun. With this things in mind, everything is doable.

Let's discuss about this!

Ok! That's a valid point. I believe that being able to see the progress of a guitarist from zero to hero can be something really cool for guitarists and it can be another way of growing, being motivated, and motivating other people.

But again, this is really personal, so we can also use this thread for it, if it's enough motivation for you to record weekly content.

Hi Lukasz! Yeah, I agree with you, but I think that you've already done a good part of the work. The alternate picking lesson needs to sound smoother, and the bending one also needs attention, mostly on the double string bends. But this is on the right track.

Keep going!

There is what i got after 2 weeks:

Alternate Picking Workout #2

Beginner Bending Workout

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jan 24 2017, 04:23 AM

Hi Lukasz, well done!

I think that you've done a lot during this 2 weeks. The next step is to focus on polishing everything. The alternate picking lesson has parts that sound perfect, while some others need some adjustment to make both hands sound in sync. There are also some timing issues here and there, but the part that needs more attention is around 00:25 where there is an open string note that should be muted when playing the following notes.

The bending lesson is also on the way, but there are still many bends to adjust. I recommend you to work on smaller blocks and dedicate some time to play the target note and then the bend.

I think that it would be a good idea to work for some days more.. are you tired of these lessons?

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Jan 24 2017, 10:15 PM

Thanks for your feedback. Yeah those lessons is kind of boring, but yeah i need polish them, what do you think about spending half time on polishing and another half on learning new ones? For sure i want polish as you suggest learned lessons, and will do it.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jan 25 2017, 01:38 PM

yes, that's a good plan. Do you have any new lesson in mind?

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Jan 25 2017, 10:38 PM

I dont have any in mind. I believe on you. My mentor smile.gif Routine need to be effective. I got time for fun, after routine. Lets be real soldier in army. On next week i give a shot next take of videos. I hope polished one biggrin.gif

P.S. I want choose some hard ones, but im scared of difficulties. And maybe you can recommend some lessons and let slowly move up (improve) with difficulties. Long term goal, move own technical skills up to 10 lvl. No mercy smile.gif I will try workout systematically .

Hi Lukasz!

Great to find these videos here!! These are going well. The main thing to improve on these ones is timing. I notice timing issues when you please triplets and also 16th notes in the first video. The second one is better regarding timing but I think that there is some room to make it sound tighter. Mostly when you start a new pattern in the second half of the vid.

Some more days of practice would be a good idea. What do you say?

Hi Lukasz! Great job! Your timing is much better on both takes. I can see important improvements. There is still some room to improve this but you are very close. I would keep these ones in your diary routine for some days, while working on new lessons. What do you say?

Hey,

I am a bit ashamed that the same story starts again. I would like to resume our mentoring. Sorry Gab!

It seems to me that motivation is my main problem. I need to work on consistency. Still my general goal is improve technique, so mostly wanna work on technique.

To remind my current level there is a rec https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Lukasz_Drazek. I got something around 1 hour a day.

I think to build consistency i need deadlines or regular videos to see my progress, what do you think about it?

Hi Lukasz! Let's get back to work mate! smile.gif

One question...

What things do you enjoy more playing? When do you find yourself playing guitar and time flies?

Posted by: Lukasz Drazek Jul 7 2019, 07:20 PM

Hi,

It is difficult for me to answer these questions, but I will try to describe my observations.

Mostly I have such intervals where I would spend playing the guitar 24/7, and sometimes I do not have this thing for a few months. Such points are, for example, local guitar competitions, live concerts of favorite artists. It is something that pushes you forward and at the same time requires you to be better and better.

Trying to look back, one of the factors was probably monotony (i focused most my time on practice - 90%) , but at the same time I wanted to achieve perfection in lessons.

Probably often wanting to achieve perfection, I wanted to see the results too quickly. No quick effects, something that caused a lack of willingness to continue playing the guitar. But looking at all of our mentoring, I see a huge progress, which could actually be much bigger if I did not allow such larger periods where I did not play the guitar.

In conclusion, the 1 hour mentioned by me is the time of the exercises themselves. The time I want to completely devote to the guitar is 1.5h-2h. Where this extra time will be the time that will cause that time will pass very quickly.

That's how it all looks in theory, knowing life, this theory may look completely different.
That's why I do not want to promise anything anymore. Currently playing the guitar is one of my hobbies. One that is not highly prioritized. But inside I want to develop in this aspect too.

Hi mate, thanks for this info.

So your motivation is totally related to objetives. The new questions are why do you play guitar? What do you want to achieve? What's the desired destination? What would make you happy regarding music?

Hi,

Seemingly simple questions, but over an hour I was thinking about them and I still do not know the "real" answer. The ones given below after reading seem quite general. They can practically be targets for every guitarist.

I started playing the guitar because I just started listening to more rock / blues / metal music, and I wanted to at least replicate songs / riffs / solos that I liked. Playing the guitar is also my de-stressing method. It lets me lock myself in the room and fly away into another reality. For a moment, do not think about work, problems.

I want master all guitar related topics, for example:
- improve guitar playing technique
- improve improvisation skills,
- be able to learn songs by ear.
- others about which I do not know yet

Currently the ability to replicate known songs/licks/melodies would make me happy. Right now,I do not enjoy creating my own music, probably because every what I can create I do not like.

Over time, probably later, it may be more fun to create my own music? It's gonna change? Hard to say.

Ok mate! Let's get into work:

For improvisation work, I recommend you to get into Collabs. It can be a good excuse to work on new concepts, styles and backing tracks.

Current collab: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=60234&pid=769667&st=20&#entry769667

You can use https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/JamSchool-Blues-As-A-Tool/ as inspiration. Jam School series are VERY inspiring. Is your question is "How can I be better at improvisation?", the answer is DOING IT, IMPROVISING. Think on one concept each day ("Blues as a tool" is a "concept" example) and improvise.

Then we have other 2 things to work:

Learning songs. What about learning a new solo each week? It doesn't have to be difficult, some suggestions:

Technique. We have lots of lessons for technique. The most important techniques to work now are:

Alternate Picking
Legato
Bending and Vibrato

Let me know your thoughts.

Improvisation (20 min) - i will try improvise some to backing track from active collab
Learning Songs (20 min) - I gonna learn Metallica - One 1st solo
