Hello folks,
I'm doing Ben's Petrucci Made Easy lesson HERE. I'm nearly up to speed but when I play at 100% speed I'm struggling with the triplets in bars 17 & 18. What's happening is I'm handing the note on just before the pick hits the string on the second and third note of each triplet.. It doesn't happen at 90%. Any ideas how to overcome this? Hi Phil, this is a typical alternate picking lick and it requires practice focused on trying to make your movements the smaller possible.
It's very important to practice at a tempo in which you can play the notes clearly, with both hands on sync and with tight timing. While you do it, check out your hands and try to notice if your movements are as small and "economic" as the ones by the instructor. If you feel that you are doing the things right, increase tempo gradually by 2 bpms. This is not something that you'll master in 1 or 2 days, it requires some time of practice and can be combined with some other alternate picking exercises. You know that you can tell me if you need some links to complementary exercises. -------------------- My lessons

Thanks Gab,
I think maybe a couple of exercises might help. I posted this here rather than in our mentoring thread to give others the benefit of the advice given Cheers Gab -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Cheers Ben,
I was using the speed trainer in GP6 where you can go up in very small increments. I'll try a click. Cheers buddy. -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Check out this ones: LINK Thanks Gab, I will look at those links but I've just purchased Guitar Speed Trainer too Cheers Great advice from BEN and GABE! Break the link in to smaller chunks and work on each chunk till you get it where you want it then put the lick back together. Also, it does just take time and practice. The key to everything it seems, is repetition. Like gabe said, play the bits at a speed that you can play them cleanly at, then bump just a couple of BPM. You will get there Todd Thanks Todd, This is what I was going to ask you for tips about in the chat room last night, but time ran out. I appreciate it. I tried to get in before you started your scheduled lesson as I didn't want to disrupt it.
