Yeah, pretty normal, lol!

A long time ago (80s) I had the exact opposite happen. I was 'working out' a solo for a track on an old Fostex (cassette) porta studio - you had to have it in record to practice with the track if you were going direct (I was using an ADA pre-amp then). It was my first pass and just as I was ready to do the real one the writer comes running out of the bathroom yelling, "THAT'S THE ONE!". It was an 8 bar solo that I had to play live every show for the next 18 months.
Trust me - it wasn't the one.

I hit record everytime I have reaper open, I have found that many times I did not think I was ready, end up being some of my better takes
