Sooooo biggrin.gif this is your personal thread man wink.gif let's start by you telling me something about where you are now, where you would like to be, what you have achieved so far and what sort of music inspires you smile.gif

all the best

now... well this will be kinda long story smile.gif

I guess ı started to listen metalk music around 12-13 years old then i started to playing guitar when i was 17 (im 23 now) and to be honest i didnt practiced and worked so hard as it should be due to school and personal things. After seeing Lord of the Rings movie i read the book then i read other fantasy novels like dragonlance, forgotten realms etc.
Not so long after discovered that there are some bands that making this kind of music and its called "power metal". After very short time Blind Guardian became one of my favorite bands. I also found and liked other power metal bands like rhapsody, helloween, hammerfall, stratovarius, iron savior, iced earth. i dont why couldnt like iced earth all this time smile.gif there must be a special reason i guess tongue.gif I still like power metal so much but in these year i realized that for me that kind of music is kinda repating itself. around that time i discovered the band called Opeth and for me its kinda new world. I remember that for a long time i didnt listen anything else. Then i found other bands like katatonia, porcupine tree, orphaned land etc... nowadays i listen all of them including power bands. thats is my metal music taste; prog/power i guess. i guess im looking for some emotinal things and also some elf/ork, king, princess things in it smile.gif

On the other hand thanks to my friends i listen nearly everythink like ethnic, rock, classical, pop, electronic, blues and jazz. For ethnic music; i listen turkish own music which played by baglama here is an image of it:
I also play it. From world nothing specific but i really like persian, arabic, chinese, japanese and celt musics. and by the way yanni is one of my favorite composers. About rock; hard rock, progressive rock is my type i guess. I also listen rarely glam but not so much (thanks to my girlfriend smile.gif. Legends like Led zeppelin, quenn, AC DC, deep purple, scorpions, pink floyd are always at my list. and for prog rock king crimson, rush, camel are my favorites.

Im very big fan of chopin especially his nocturnes. also Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi and F. Liszt has always a place at my list. Most Pop music in turkey is made by voiceless top models so its very low quality because of that i pick carefully what to listen when its comes to pop and its not my favorite music style so i guess im considering all of fusion, funk, pop all together. Toto ( i guess they are kinda pop/rock) Michael jackson, Tower of Power are the most listened musicians by me. Well, electronic music lite industrial, dark techno, trance, dark trance is for dancing at the clubs for me biggrin.gif i dont useally listen in a day.

About blues and jazz jimi, BB king, Carlie Parker, Louis Armstrong are my favorites. Im not a big fan of jazzbut i prefer smooth jazz to listen.

Im sure i forgot a lot of bands and musicians i listen and enjoy but i guess this is almost my music taste.

After 1 year from buying an electric guitar (that was a cort g254) i joined a Band called Amok. we were covering some metallica and megadeth songs. We played together like 1 year. than we just split up after a long summer holiday smile.gif. Until university i didnt joined another band and played at school concerts with my school mates. At first year of university we gathered some people to make Doom metal. well it didnt worked so good so i left the band. After 1 year i joined a band that my friends' playing. We were covering some iron maiden songs. At that year we named the band "Eclipse" and played at our university's spring festival. We covered songs from judas priest, iron maiden, Neil young, Dio, deep pruple etc.

http://youtu.be/lihyt6kz4rs

here is a link from that concert smile.gif

after that year 3rd guitarist left the band and we replaced drummer. We changed the name to " Dreamforge" other guitarist and i were had very similar taste of music so we started to playing power metal and covered songs from Iced earth, Blind Guardian, iced earth etc. he was the song writer and we compose a dong called "defiant"

here is a video from a concert of ours

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4yDo9p1Nzg

and here is the orginal record

http://soundcloud.com/mithriltear/dreamforge-defiant

after that song other members quited interested in composing songs and just wanted to cover and going to stage. after a short time other guitarist moved to denmark due to his school then i also left the band. Now we are still composing songs from internet.

here is two samples for our songs:

http://soundcloud.com/mithriltear/elune-wip
http://soundcloud.com/mithriltear/weight-of-liberty

while we are composing defiant we inspared a game called prince of persia. so we started to find our best animes, books, games, movies etc.

we compose the song called elune for a character from world of warcraft and Weight of liberty from starcraft. So that kind of things inspare me i guess games, book, animes etc.

For my musical achive i wanna have an album in the future. so im not interesting in becoming best guitarist in the whole world. so i guess i wanna be a humble musician who has his own music. But my music has to satisfy me %100.

i guess these can give u an opinion about me smile.gif and im wondering that each user only choose one instructor for mentoring program?

Hey man smile.gif sorry it took so long! You seem like a dude who wants A LOT from music! I haven't managed to listen to all the links properly so a bit more time (this means till tonight) will be all I need to go through all of them.

Being a musician who's 100% satisfied with his work is a very interesting idea, as this means you will be the best at being yourself as a musician biggrin.gif

Tell me, would you like to focus on your compositions only, or you'd like to dabble into other directions as well? It's awesome that you work based on concepts, as well wink.gif

let me know so that I'll have a better idea where to start, k?

all the best

Cosmin

hmm well focusing just to composing will be to assertively without theory and harmony. But i also want that the theory that i will get is also usefull at practice not just on paper

as a little start you can give an advice about the song that i already send you from pm and here is it again smile.gif

http://soundcloud.com/deniz-keskose/carry-on

im tring to make it heavier but i cant. By the heavier i mean something like this song

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Mar 29 2012, 05:34 PM

Hey mate biggrin.gif It's ALL in the drums and rhythmic structure behind the guitars smile.gif have you thought of any idea regarding how the drums would sound like? If not, I can try and start an idea for you once I'll be back home and we can go on from there biggrin.gif

what say you?

Cosmin

PS: I love the harmonies!

actually i give the drum parts to our drummer to write but after that we decided that this song should be heavier and he was waiting for us to make it heavier to write the drums. and to be honest i didnt think anythink about it. i only tried to play 2nd rhytm guitar with distortion but it didnt worked so well

Hey mate, it's very good that you're doing things! biggrin.gif I had something more dynamic in mind smile.gif I mean, I was thinking about formulas which the rhythm guitar and the bass and drums would execute together, while the clean guitars would provide a harmonic texture - much better than just having a long chord in the back smile.gif

What do you think?

Cosmin

hey man how are you?

how is going with the songs i started to become more and more curious smile.gif and by the way im not sitting without doing nothing wink.gif but first i really want to hear ur take

our drummer have an electronic drum and he recorded some drums on it and also added some unmetronomed basses smile.gif some drums also not right but the structure is like this:

 carry_on_davullarla.mp3 ( 6.7MB ) : 115

what you think? and what else can we do to improve my compossing and harmony ?

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Apr 7 2012, 08:02 AM

Hey mate! It's not bad at all! It could be tighter, but I guess this is just a draft, right?

One thing which you could do would be to create some rhythmic formulas in which the bass drums and guitar would come up with more dynamic phrases. I think this is what would take it to another level, as at this point it's a bit to linear.

Hope this helps smile.gif

Mate - I picked the chorus up for a little bit of a remake smile.gif - I figured that this would be the part starting at abour 01.40, right?

I just followed your chord progression and came up with this. Let me know if it's a good direction tongue.gif

hey man i worked on some ideas from your ideas smile.gif ok first i figured out that im having very hard times about timing. i guess because of it is 3/4 i cant catch what you did as you will see... and other thing at the start of riff i couldnt catch 2nd guitar but after intro i realised that ua re using 3rd note of same riff right? when first guitar playing B note 2nd one plays D but as i mentioned i couldnt cathed 2nd guitar before. and another question as u realised at the chours the song becomes A major but u palying a minor riff isnt there any problem?

here is my take ( i couldnt work so good on it :/ )

Hey man! I felt there was something fishy with the harmony - it was major after all biggrin.gif playing minor there was just an idea smile.gif now you sparked my imagination to try something nice, WHAT IF we combine a chorus with A major and one with A minor? We could turn this into a very interesting combo. BTW your take is nice but, try to fit the timing better, it'll work out just fine wink.gif I'll try to cook up the riff into the major part as well and also send over to you a sepparate track with just the the second guitar, k?

i will be very appreciated if you send me seperated tracks (including drums and basses wink.gif to get the whole idea. and im also thinking some bridge riff or "preperation riff" for E minor chord just before chours. as i mentioned at my frist long post im looking for improving my composing and harmony and while doing that i guess i also need improve my timing especially some cases like
this. while we are working on ideas for Carry On you can also give me somethink to work to improve my composing, theory and timing wink.gif

hey hombre! smile.gif timing it is biggrin.gif let's see how you fare with this riffage right here wink.gif can you record yourself playing it? I think it encompasses the most important aspects of rhythm playing and I suggest you focus on timing, tightness and paying attention to details. Needless to say, a musician with attention to detail will reach high levels biggrin.gif
