GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Wireless Not Working With Acoustic

Posted by: Phil66 Jan 8 2021, 10:05 PM

Hello folks,

I have a couple of acoustic guitars with piezo pickups. I've tried on of them into my Scarlett 18i8 via my Line 6 G10 wirels and it doesn't work, the output on the guitar does work with a cable direct though.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Phil

Just to get it out of the way, take the same wireless rig and try it on your ibby if you havent since this post just to make sure it's not the wireless. If it works fine on the ibby and then not again on the acoustic, then I'm not sure to be honest. If the cable works, and the wireless works on another guitar it seems like it should all work. If it just won't you can always just use the cable.

Thanks Sarge,

The wireless system works on everything buddy, it's what I use day in day out for all of my practise and recordings, it's only the Line 6 G10 system but it's rock solid and keeps things tidy, maybe overkill for a home studio but once you've had one you'll never go back to a cable wink.gif The send plugs straight into the guitar, no need to attach to a strap, the receiver is also the charger and the charge lasts for hours, https://www.andertons.co.uk/line-6-relay-g10-digital-wireless-guitar-system

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the output of the Piezos??

Cheers

Have you tried the acoustic wireless into an amp?

Just into my interface mate, I'll try an amp this evening.

Yep, it's good and the tuner in the Sigma works.

Nope, doesn't work into an amp.

Must be the way Piezos are wired https://line6.com/support/page/kb/wireless/relay-g10g10s-guitar-compatibility-fitelectronics-r817/

I tired an adaptor as it says in the attachment on that web page linked above but no change. The light is flashing on the transmitter when it's plugged in.

Troubleshooting procedure:

Power the receiver with a USB power source.
Insert the transmitter into the receiver (this will ensure that the transmitter and the receiver are set to the same channel). The LED on the transmitter should be Green or Green flashing. (If it is red flashing, the transmitter needs charging. Leave it in the receiver until the LED turns steady green. That indicates it is fully charged.)
Insert the transmitter into the instrument's jack, turn up the volume control and play.
If audio is not being transmitted to the receiver:

A. The problem is mechanical if the LED on the transmitter is OFF when plugged into an instrument.

B. The problem is electrical if the LED on the transmitter is ON, or FLASHING when plugged into an instrument

I can still do what I want to which is record using a mic and direct by using a cable instead of wireless.

Cheers

Sorry to hear it's not working. Back to cable for the acoustic it seems. The good news is you've been getting great stuff with the mic!

Yeah I know, I'm still going to experiment with recording using the mic and cable at the same time and blend the two with slight left /right panning. Just for some experience wink.gif

Cheers
