I found this today...a few facts an australian blogger found out while spending time in Germany. The funny fact (for me) is that he or she stayed in my hometown Münster, so I can relate to many of the things in this article.

Enjoy!

I remember crossing the roads in Duesseldorf when I could see there was no traffic. My companion said I should wait for the lights to flash that it was ok to cross. I had no idea I was jaywalking. I didn't know what it was until then.

I continued to do it, though. I just found it funny that there were groups of people stood waiting before an empty road wink.gif

Unfortunately, I have never had the chance to go. My brother lived in Europe for years and had to go to Germany for his medical treatments at an American base there. He told me German drivers were the nicest he had ever seen, biggrin.gif A friend of mine was also stationed there in the late 1980's (he was also born there) and still goes back almost every year. It must be a cool place!
I actually had a little piece off the Berlin wall my brother had given me, but it somehow got lost over the years. I still wish I could find it.

Great post! Very funny bits smile.gif I heard that there is a small rulebook in german companies to cover such things as the appropriate amount of time to wait before sending flowers for passing or wedding, birth etc. How many flowers, and what type. I'm guessing this is an exaggeration of what actually happens? There can't be that level of structure and rules one would think?

The waiting for a light at an open road did strike me as a tad odd, in downtown Atlanta, people cross in the middle of traffic against a green light in groups. But people get run over now and then as well.

The German police also only fired 85 bullets last year. Forty-nine were warning shots, 36 were fired at suspects, and 6 people were killed.

The CMPD here in Charlotte probably fire that many shots in a single day laugh.gif

There might be companies who have such a rulebook, but that sounds pretty weird. The "light at an open road" thing is very true, though biggrin.gif I am always amazed when I go abroad and people just walk when the light shows red. So I quickly decide to walk as well, so people don't think I'm a tourist (if my hawaiian shirt and the white socks worn in my sandals don't give me away earlier laugh.gif )

Haha, yeah! I'm pretty sure german policemen are afraid of all the paperwork they have to do if they even fire a single bullet as a warning shot biggrin.gif

I spend 8 months in Germany in my army days...we were stationed in a German military facility in Soest near Dortmund.
Untill late in the eighties every youngman had to serve in the Belgian army for a period..
I can put it like this ..best time of my life!!Always fun to go back there..I've visited Berlin recently wich was very impressive!

There's a line in Arnold Schwarzenegger's book where he said he wanted everyone in the world to pick a barbell and automatically think 'Arnold'.

With me, it's donuts. laugh.gif

Get some Pils too.. wouldn't be right without some Pils. In fact.. it sounds so quintessentially German I think I might come on over. If I start now, I might make it... biggrin.gif
