it seems like im always plagued with injuries. Couple months ago i got wrist pain in my fretting hand from doing legato, now im getting pain in my picking hand from picking exercises. Im so mad. i only spend 40 min a day on picking. i do use the computer alot, could this be a factor in my pains? I'm in a comp. programming course and all we do is type. I'm so pissed. Now im thinking about cutting down my routine to 20 min. How did guys like Vai practice 10 hrs a day? How bout you Kris? At this rate it'll be 20 yrs before I can play like Vai sad.gif

Umm.. I would bet that it is the computer IMO. I am on the computer quite a bit myself.. although I am not typing all that much. Usually looking up guitar stuff, etc. The only pain I ever have when playing guitar is when doing a lot of barre chords or my fretting fingers are sore. Which they are right now.. and I have to say that it sucks. It seems like once a week or so.. I will end up spending a couple of hours with the guitar.. and it shreds my fingers. Then it will last for a couple of days before it goes away. You would think after about a year or so of straight playing, they would quit this.

If I were to play my most demanding legato exercises 40 minutes a day, I would get an injury within a week (and I have in the past).

You have to be very careful when practicing techniques. There are so many other things you can do in a 10 hour schedule.

Thx guys. I think I'll cut my routine in half so I only spend 5 min on each exercise. it's more bearable that way too.
