VIKINGS on the HISTORY CHANNEL here in the States and online everywhere is honestly one of the best series I've ever seen on Television. Each season just keeps getting better. It's not a documentary, so every single tiny fact isn't tied exactly to actual history, it uses real history as a base for a great story. If you haven't seen it, you are missing out. Here is a scene from the most recent episode.

IF you have any interest in Norse Mythology, this is the show for you It's also packed with music from Wardruna and Skuggsja and others. Killer soundtrack as a bonus.

I love Vikings, have watched all seasons and I'm eager to watch the next one! Besides, I believe each season it gets deeper and better.

Trivia fact: Did you know that the actress that plays Lagertha also appears in a House M.D. episode? I've watched all House episodes like 4/5 times, yet it was a few weeks ago I realized she plays the girl in the episode "One day, one room".

I'm not much into watching new shows, but I keep thinking I should get into some of them. Though it's not new, a friend of mine has been telling me to watch American Horror Story. I watched the first episode, but got a bit scared as I was watching it in the dark of night.

Otherwise I'm more into older comedy series such as Seinfeld.

Didn't know that but I must agree with ya on the series getting better and bigger each season. Also two of the writers daughters star in the show Torvi and Helga. They play sisters in the show

The scope of the show by the third season is IMMENSE it only gets bigger from there yet manages to keep personal stories driving it. Amazing writing, amazing production, best show on TV imho. The last ep was just jaw dropping. I can't wait til the big battle in the season finale.

It's based roughly on historical fact. The "Great Heathen Army" did attack England and fought the Saxons (the Germans who had pushed the original "Britains" back in to Wales (a word that means "Stranger"). The reason Essex is called Essex is that it mean Eastern Saxony. Wessex, Western Saxony, etc. Saxony=Land of Saxons (E.g. Basically, Germans)

Then here comes the great Heathen army to crush everyone. They keep this up for more than 10 years. They take so much land and so many pretty gals and grow such big farms that they just decide to largely stay there in large groups. The vikings didn't die off so much as melt in to the societies they invaded, as most of the places they went had better soil, temperate winters and made life just good all around.

France is another example. "Francia" e.g. france, has an area called NORMANDY, which means "Land of the Normans or Norse or North Men) it's at the mouth of a river. It was given to the Norse so they would fight off other vikings trying to come up the river.which is often how they attacked cities and monestaries.

It's truly amazing the contribution that such a small band of folks had on world history. It's said they made it as far as the "New World" and made friends with local indian tribes. They called one place in the new world VINLAND as grape vines simply grew there without being attended. This was nothing less than an Miracle to the Vikings who would have had a very tough time growing grapes at all. Thus they drank booze made from fermented honey and wine was much more rare.

The more I watch the show and the more I learn about the history the more interesting it gets. It's NOT A DOCUMENTARY. ROLO AND LOTHBROOK WERE NOT BROTHERS. But as far as historical fiction, I've seen NONE better

There's a few cool shows Ive watched recently. 'Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agency' was pretty cool, very surreal but if you're okay with that type of thing then its worth a punt. Its got Frodo in it, he's probably made enough from LotR that he can take a chance on weird shows

I liked 'The expanse', Id watch a season 2 of that. Also 'The OA' was most epic.

I totally binge watched them one weekend and the following day you posted up 'Cross to bear' and it reminds of the show everytime in fact that song should be 'Athelstans theme' and should be played everytime he is onscreen...... without exception.

I thought the first 2 seasons of vikings were particularly excellent. Its a great show overall but the first 2 are perfect. I totally binge watched them one weekend and the following day you posted up 'Cross to bear' and it reminds of the show everytime in fact that song should be 'Athelstans theme' and should be played everytime he is onscreen...... without exception.

I don't have TV in my home, 12 years ago I decided to conserve what brain cells I had left and got rid of cable.

However I do get things at the library, our library has everything. I am partial to British TV, especially mysteries/detective, the average American is so brainless that most American TV is crap. However we still do have a segment of our population that is not brain dead, and there is one show out there suitable for selective audiences....

Watch any episode, watch any part of any episode, it does not matter, all is good. Don't try to figure it out, just go along with it.
