I have a question guys: How do I get a guitar that has been bought in the United States to Germany in the cheapest possible way? I don't know anything about shipping fees or taxes but I need to know what it would cost me to bring a Jackson rr1 to my house.

My friend is making a trip to miami soon and I saw that that Us made Jacksons are almost 1000euros cheaper in the United states (2300 euros in germany - 2000$ in the US). If the taxes and shipping are too high (above 300Euros) then I won't go for it but when I can manage to get it here cheap, I'll definitaly have one of my dream guitars...

The only thing I could tell you is to get alot of money cause it might be pricey to ship it over to germany. I hope you get it though man.

US Postal service - it's a lot cheaper than UPS or FED EX for international shipments. If your friend is going to Miami have him buy it and bring it on the plane...it can probably be even stored in the over head compartment.

Figuring from Miami to Berlin with dimensions 38x20x6 @ 25 lbs, your cost would be roughly 400us. You will want to have it sent as a gift to avoid duties and taxes.

The US postal service like fatb0t says, I've check Fedex, UPS and those and it's expensive.

Have it maked "gift" to avoid taxes, usually product samples could pass the border w/o taxes added but I don't know if that's only when sent to a company.

I've heard it used in sending to private as well.

Depending on the size of the object, they sometimes go untaxed through. I know my new Floyd Rose set did some time back.

Be aware that price is Germany already includes
taxes and shipping, plus store's cut of course.
So I would go with "private" or "gift" kind a shipment
to lower customs as possible. smile.gif

if you buy it in the US he can

a) bring it with him in the plane (no costs)

cool.gif send it, BUT there you'll have to wait around a month, pay ~400$ shipping, and if you're unlucky the customs duty office will notice it, open it and then you have to pay in germany again taxes and this is around 20% of the orignal price - whether its marked as "gift" or not...

so i'll take it in the plane, if possible

in the german "gitarre und bass" nr. 10/07 is an article called "Pat Martino ist schuld! Warum ich noch eine Gitarre kaufen musste". the writer buys the guitar at ebay, and he describes exactly what costs for taxex, custums and shipping you have to pay.
he says, that you have to add about 25% to the price of the guitar as a guidline.
please let me know, how you brought your guitar to germany, cause my uncle ist going to america in november and due to the current exchange rate i am thinking of letting him buy a guitar for me too. i am heading for a schecter, a gibson or a prs tremonti...

good luck!
