I love both the Les Paul pickups and EMG 81/85 sets. It all depends on what you want to play. If your into metal, then i dont see much harm in changing. You can always exchange back to the old ones later, but changing between active and passive pickups is a bit more job than changing passives with another pair of passives.
Some will probably say it would be dragging value down, but i also know people that just love Les Pauls with EMG's and believe it enhances the guitar. -------------------- Guitars: Schecter Stiletto Classic, Jackson SLSMG, Ibanez RG-380 Japan, Gibson Les Paul Studio

Those EMGs are active so you may have to route for a battery compartment....I'd imagine that'd degrade the value of the LP.

Nah, you can stuff the battery inside the usual compartment with the volume/tone knob wires. -------------------- Guitars: Schecter Stiletto Classic, Jackson SLSMG, Ibanez RG-380 Japan, Gibson Les Paul Studio

I think for my next guitar I'll get some EMG pickups... I played with them and sounds really good, but of course it depends of your own technique.

Adding the EMG'S is for sure no mistake, a Les Paul equiped with an EMG 81 turns into a weapon! You don't have to worry about the battery, there is enough room in the compartment and of course you can always change back to the original Gibson Pickups (which are awesome too) if you don't like the sound of the EMG's.
