Laney Vh100r, Versatile enough for metal? |

Hey guys
 Does anyone have any experience with this amplifier? I am looking for a versatile amp, but I also need it to do metal very well. I have been thinking of the ENGL Powerball, Bogner Uberschall, Peavy 6505+ and the Laney VH100R. The Powerball seems good, but I'm afraid it might not be versatile enough. The Uberschall seems a bit loose and saggy, the 6505+ seems great for metal rythm playing, but nothing else? and the Laney VH100R I'm afraid might not do metal well enough, being more rock oriented? Or being too trebly. I love the Opeth tone, but I hear they use the Boss GT for distortion live, and not the VH100R. I plan on getting myself a Maxon OD808 and use it as a TS though, but I have little experience with it. I would be really grateful if anyone have any good words to say, or have tried/owned a VH100R and can come with some input. the VH100 has the same gain channel as the GHxxL (GH50L f.eg).
These Laneys were teriffic amp to get a couple of years ago when the price was too low. Laney has since then raised the price for both the VH100R and GH series so it's less appealing today imho. Havn't played one for ages! It can't hold it's own for that kind of 5150 or Poweraball brutal metal but you'd have to add an OD before it. However, the Laney society, like the Orange ditto is an exclusive one of proud members. Someday I will be a member in one of these too

Peavey is great amp, not sure about that Laney. But I suggest that you try both of them in the store with several guitars, you will get a pretty good idea if you like them or not. Listen to your ears.

The Powerball is versatile enough for sure
It has amazing cleans as well as distortion from 1 to 500  I loved mine, but it was way to big and loud for me... |
