Hi everybody,
this might only be of interest for the german GMC-members:
There is a Special edition of the magazine "Keys" which includes Cubase LE 5 on DVD for only 15 €. You can get it in stores or you can order it here: http://www.keys.de/7544.0.html
I don't knwo Cubase, but I think it's worth a try from what I've read, so I just ordered the magazine.

Don't know if it's a misprint by the magazine or a special version just for the magazine but according to Steinberg there is no LE5.

The versions for 5 are Cubase 5, Cubase Studio and Cubase Essential. There was a Cubase LE4 though.

Not a big issue but you might want to check with the magazine/Steinberg about what you're getting and what the upgrade path and prices will be...

I kind of assume it some special version done for the magazine. How it differs from the normal version of Cubase and how you upgrade it though I guess you only find out when you get the magazine.

Kind of interested to know if you need Steinberg's usual USB dongle to authorise it or not. I always found Steinberg's dongle a pain and was one reason why I stopped using Cubase some years ago. (Not the only reason - there were more important ones but the dongle was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.)

BTW - I believe that Steinberg have put up a demo version of Cubase5.

Hi,
I just got the magazine and it is indeed a special version. I didn't install it but will do it later this week. You have to register for free at Steinberg and can upgrade to the studio version of Cubase for "only" 199 €. Well, what's important for me is that that I can record, mix and have a synthesizer and a drum machine (which is included, it's called Halion or something...) I'll keep you updated!

If it helps Studio usually retails for about 330Euros (RRP is about 400) so the upgrade looks pretty good value should you want it.

I'd assume that the magazine's version mainly differs in the number of tracks it can run and probably doesn't include all the plug-ins. If that's the case the magazine version should meet most home recording needs.

Halion - isn't that Steinberg's sampler?
