GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Muting

Short and sweet: string muting is my problem. I can play fairly quickly, but it usually sounds so-so because I am terrible at muting. I just don't get it 
Any tips?

Slow it down and practice muting. It will eventually become an unconscious skill.

That's a given, but What exactly am I supposed to be doing? Touching the strings lightly with my fingertips? Do I do it after I play them (when I watch videos, I don't see people doing that), or is it kind of a final touch when I finish playing on a string? I'm probably thinking too hard about it, but I want to be sure I'm doing it right, it seems about as essential a technique as alt picking.

Start with this:
Use your left hand fingers to mute strings higher than te one you are playing (e.g. if you fret a note with your index finger on the g string, let yout index finger also deaden the B and E strings)
Use your right hand palm to mute strings lower than the one you are playing
