Hi GuitarGenius! Welcome to your Gab's Army thread!!

Could you please tell me a bit about you, your musical tastes, influences, strengths and weaknesses? I would need some videos of you playing rhythm and solo guitar, so please post your best material here. If you have some music or ideas of your own, also post them here. Also let me know how you think that I can help you and what are your expectations for our job. You can check the other Army's thread to discover the different modalities of this project.

The principles of our Army are:

+ Improve your technique
+ Make music and solos
+ Have fun
+ Destroy the enemy (hahaha not really just kidding... )

Hi mate! It's really cool to see you working. I wonder if you practiced the Sweep Picking exercises. I checked each of the files and these are my comments about it:

Blues in session:
I like your tone and there are some nice phrases here. However I still think that you have to adjust your technique here because there are many licks with wrong or muted notes, as well as some bends that don't reach the correct pitch.

Sallama:
This one sounds very fresh for me, and reminds me a bit to Mars Volta. Is it an influence for you? Once again your tone is really cool an your playing is ok, but with some tuning issues in some notes and bends. There are some notes out scales here and there (for example starting at 2:13), you have to pay attention to the scale that you have to use there.

Yngwie Malmsteen Cover:
Is this a Malmsteen cover? or just you improvising over a Malmsteen style backing track? In this solo there are many tuning issues and I think that the reason is that you aree not sure the scale you have to use over it... am I wrong?

Lay down sally cover:
This one has issues with the scale but also with your timing. We have to work on this! The backing sounds good!

Ok mate, based on this samples, we should start some ear training as well as working on improvisation. What do you think?

Thanks for replying. First of all, unfortunately I know that yngwie malsteen cover isn't even close to him biggrin.gif
And I know that ı have little timing problems But I am sure that blues in sesion and sallama is good

Besides, I haven't practised sweep picking since July cuz I have been to holiday but I would be great If you could give some practises
And can you give some david gilmour exercises ı like his sound

I know that this lesson is very tricky, but we could start with the slower backings to start incorporating Malmsteen style licks and Sweep Picking.

Hey mate! This sounds very beautiful!! I like the tone and fx settings, it sounds very close to Gilmour. There are some notes that sound out of scale, some bends that doesn't reach the correct pitch (starting at 2:27) and a fast licks that could sound tighter (for ex at 2:33) but with some little work this could be a real masterpiece.

Hi mate! Nice playing on this take. There are some moments in which you sound like Santana, then you start to become more personal and that's what we take and develop. Jamming over these type is very helpful, and combined with technique and theory work will take your playing to a new level.

What are you practicing nowadays? Do you have some kind of guitar routine?

Posted by: GuitarGenius Nov 24 2013, 10:21 AM

Actually I am trying to make solos like Randy Rhoads I like his style and tone he has amazing solo in mr crowley and crazy train Can you give me the notes that are about his style and technique
Thanks

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 24 2013, 05:08 PM

Hi mate! Randy was an amazing guitar player. He had classical background and created his own style combining the rocker style of classics like Jimmy Page with the roots of shred guitar. He took his classical etudes and influences and combined them with his own way of playing heavy metal and helped to create the neoclassical guitar playing style. He had a very tight technique that combined alternate picking, sweep picking, tapping and legato.

The best ways to understand and study a guitarist in following this steps:

- Listen to all his music.
- Read about his bio and influences.
- If you find a musician that influenced him very much, consider analyzing him too.
- Learn some of his most used licks. You can use youtube for this, just write Randy Roads licks and you get this: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=randy+roads+licks&sm=3
- Analyze his compositions. Learn the riffs, the chord progressions and see what typè of tonalities and combination of chords he uses during the songs and also during his solos.
- Learn some of his solos. Isolate the difficult parts and create variations for diary practice. Analyze what is happening there. (theory)
- Practice the solos over the backing tracks and try to create variations of the licks to make them of your own.

Those are the guidelines that I would use to analyze a guitarist. Sometimes you also can check their guitar clinics, but in this case I think that it's not possible. You can check his GMC lessons:

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Randy-Rhoads-Style/
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/one-on-one/tapping-2/

Let me know what you think and please count with me if you want my help /guidance to do it.

Hi mate! Metal is great for developing your guitar technique. The most used techniques are:

Palm Muting
Alternate Picking
Sweep Picking
Legato
Vibrato
Bending
Pinch Harmonics
Only Downstrokes Rhythms

The most used scales are:

Pentatonic Minor
Minor Aeolian
Phrygian Mode
Harmonic minor
Mixolydian Mode
Chromatic Scale

If you want, I can help you to design a Metal Course with weekly guitar routines to master this style. smile.gif

Hi mate. It sounds nice. There are some phrases very interesting and there are some other parts that need more definition (talking about the composition / improvisation). There is something usually called "Answer & question" that means a connection between phrases melodically that seems to be a dialogue. I think that you solo needs more connection among phrases. Your technique on this one is good, and there are only some fast licks that could sound smoother. There overall is ok.

We have to define your routine... do you have a list of suggested lessons that fill the topics?

Hi gab,

For Starting,
I Definitely start with techniques that are fst like sweep picknig
In sweep picking I can do it but I cant use it in metal so I want to improoves it

Can you help me

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Dec 30 2013, 10:59 PM

Hi mate, !"Sweep Picking" should be only one part of your diary routine if you want to make the course effective. The idea is to select a lesson for each topic and work on it. I would like you to suggest some lessons to fill the first week routine. Then I will obviously help you with each technique, but at first we have to define the exercises / lessons.

WEEK 1:

Warming up + Stretches

HOUR 1:

- Alternate Picking
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Alternate-Picking-Workout-1/

- Legato
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Land-Of-Legato/

- Theory
Learn new topics weekly from here: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=47852

HOUR 2:

- Palm Muting
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-guitar/basic-metal-rhythm/

- Sweep Picking
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/sweep-picking-lesson/

- Theory

Hi mate, nice tracks. What's exactly? Are this your improvisations? Have you created the backing too?

Cool, good style. I noted that your hands lost a bit sync when you play fast stuff. I think that you should slow down a bit and practice some AP exercises. What do you think?

Well, you should work on some Alternate Picking exercises and lessons. I think that this lesson could be a good choice for you:
